“Send Me an Angel” is a 1983 song by Australian band Real Life. Initially released on Real Life’s debut album Heartland, it is the band’s most well-known song. This version originally peaked in early 1984 in the US at No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song’s biggest chart success, however, was in 1989, where an updated version entitled “Send Me an Angel ’89” surpassed the original version from 1983. “Send Me An Angel ’89” reached a peak of No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the summer of 1989 in the US. Both versions are very similar; the 1989 version is missing the louder “claps” in the chorus and the drums sound much less electronic, more like an acoustic kit, as opposed to the typical 1980s electronic drums sound heard on the original. The song is prominently featured in the 1989 film The Wizard, the 1986 film Rad, and the 1987 film Teen Wolf Too.

This was mega huge in Europe, even no.1 in a few countries. One of those great songs that you immediately associate with the 80s decade. Thumbs up!

Great song and IMHO this version blows the remix away. As an aussie it’s always great to hear some of the local music meticulously ripped by you. I have begun to do some myself but they never come out as well as yours. If you get a chance see if you can find and listen to a band by the name of Koo De Tah. They have a couple of great songs “Too Young For Promises” and “Think Of Me”. Cheers

I don’t if it is the same band but the song is “State of the nation” (1983),
a great success!
thanks.

Tragically that track never had any remixes or extended versions, AFAIK. Just album version and edit.

Similar to Don Henley’s “Boys of Summer”, that suffered the same fate…

All these re-rips these last days, great work! Hopefully you’ll do ‘Promises’ real soon, because I can hardly wait any longerrrrr 🙁 🙂

Nice to give this track a rebirth. I like the original version more than the remix. Thanks! And have a great weekend.

I can’t resist Paul, but you surely are an Angel yourself for re-posting this classic record. I so love the original and I also loved the ’89 version too, but no one really plays this version anymore, so that’s what makes you so extraordinary because you present these wonderful archives of an artists’ back catalog in beautiful fidelity. I love this band and really enjoyed their other singles as well. This has been a super week Paul for music. Thanks so much (AGAIN) for all of your tireless hard work! This seems to be the year of the re-rip and… Read more »

I can imagine how fun it must be, looking at the records that you once posted, but have taken them out again. Sort of like reacquainting oneself with old friends. Oh Paul, thanks for making this an almost mission in your life giving old dance records a chance to touch a new generation of listeners and for those of us who adore this type of music. I’m getting chills just typing these words. There’s so much you’ve already done and will continue to do. I’m just happy and enthused that you have a loyal fan base who loves what you… Read more »

Paul you’re an angel! Thanks so much. The original mix of this song was far better than the late 80s remixes!
