Radio Heart Featuring Gary Numan – Radio Heart (UK 12″)

Burning The Ground Exclusive 1987

“Radio Heart” by Radio Heart featuring Gary Numan is a 1987 single that combines the talents of the British electronic music legend Gary Numan with the production of Hugh Nicholson, a former member of the Marmalade. Radio Heart was a project led by Nicholson and centered around collaborations with various artists, with Gary Numan being the most prominent contributor.

The single reached #35 on the UK Singles Chart, marking one of Gary Numan’s notable appearances in the mid-1980s outside his solo work.

The song was part of a series of releases under the Radio Heart name, blending catchy synthpop hooks with the moody, futuristic edge of Numan’s vocal and stylistic signature. While “Radio Heart” wasn’t a massive chart hit, it remains a memorable track for Numan fans and synthpop enthusiasts alike.

Wow.. All these years as a Numan album listener and I never knew about this track! It’s an absolute corker too isn’t it. Thanks so much for the musical enlightenment! It’s appreciated.

I rarely comment, but want to seize this opportunity to shout out the Scottish band The Marmalade. Aside from their 1970 top ten hit “Reflections Of My Life”, they are virtually unknown in the US despite an impressive run of UK/European hit singles. If you appreciate harmony-based British pop/rock from the 60’s and early 70’s, you will likely love most of their music including their LP tracks and B-sides. I rate them right up there with the Hollies and Crosby, Stills and Nash. One side note: Hugh Nicholson was actually a later member who joined after lead guitarist and primary… Read more »

Gary Numan’s Machine Trilogy is just pure class with a sound reminiscent of Kraftwerk trapped in an elevator together with a bunch of UK rockers. Simply magnificent. Thanks for another excellent BTG release!

I must really dig into Gary Numan’s discography! This is a great, infectious piece of synth-pop music. I have always liked what I’ve heard of his work, starting with, “Down in the Park” from the Times Square soundtrack album, and of course his “Cars” hit really big in the US. Mr. Numan is a fascinating musician with an awesome look. I love the way he moves in this video. I can’t believe this song didn’t get more airplay. I just don’t understand the music business. Who really cares, because we’ve got you, dear Paul. Thanks for an awesome post!!

First of all: happy new year, Paul and Jeff and everyone around. Great post, Paul. I love this song and funnily enough, this 12inch is one of almost a dozen which are still in my stock list but I cannot find them anywhere. One house move too many, I guess ;-( Great to have it in DJPaul quality. Thank you so much and keep on dancing. s´n´d
