NEW 2020 Transfer!
Meticulously Remastered!
Originally posted January 21, 2013
“Pretty In Pink” is a song by the English band The Psychedelic Furs, originally released in 1981 as a single from the band’s second album, Talk Talk Talk. The song inspired the 1986 film of the same name and a re-recorded version of the song was included on the film’s soundtrack.
The original version of “Pretty in Pink” peaked at number 43 on the UK Singles Chart in July 1981. Allmusic writer Bill Janovitz credits producer Steve Lillywhite for finding “the ideal sound for the band, with a perfect blend of classic pop, punk, and art-rock elements”. Janovitz called it “the definitive take” of the song.
The 1986 version reached number 18 in the UK and number 41 on the United States Billboard Hot 100 chart. Janovitz described this version as “ho-hum, streamlined, (and) radio-ready”.

Thank you for posting this one. I always loved this song.
THIS IS AWESOME MANY THANX 🙂
What catches my eye is “Love My Way (US Remix)” – this is a song that I don’t know of any remixes of! What’s the difference from the original single? Just a slight tweak to the mixdown itself? Remastering?
… though I then immediately found the Hot Tracks remix from 1994: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLZSNP1D5B8
I know song. I thought he was saying, All my life. 🙂
Sounds awfully good, thank you!
Thanks Paul. I love how a song (that didn’t even hit, over here it’s Top 40 or bust) inspired someone to write a whole film. It’s quite often the other way round.
Many thanks for all these wonderful singles & EPs, your job is truly amazing and really appreciated. Love the Psychedelic Furs!
You’re very welcome 🙂
Thanks for the rip! I have to be the only person who grew up in the 70s/80s and saw every John Hughes film EXCEPT THIS. I’m not sure why I didn’t watch it at the time. I believe I tried watching it in the late 90s and just shut it off after 10 minutes. Honestly, I cannot think of any movie released in the 80s that I have not seen other than this. Bizarre.
🙂
Thanks again, Paul.
One of the greatest films of the 80s in my opinion. Now might be a good time to watch the film since Paramount is releasing it for the very first time on Blu-ray in the USA complete with a brand new 4K remaster from the original 35 millimeter negative the disc will be released on June 16.
The opening refrain is seared in my brain as one of the most classic openings of an ’80s song. Both how perfectly it fit with the movie and to wake up my friends who hadn’t yet discovered The Psychedelic Furs. Thanks for this awesome throwback to a classic era and nod to one of the best of John Hugh’s contributions to the time. Thanks for all the goodness, Paul! You rock!
You’re welcome dugn. I agree with you the opening refrain is brilliant 🙂
Thank you so much for this. It opened me up to the band as a teen & brings back fond memories. You’re simply the best, Paul.
You’re welcome, Maxxwell it’s nice to see you commenting here 🙂
Very fond memories of this song. I loved the movie and the soundtrack too. Thank you Paul for this new re-up. I know it’s going to sound divine!!
Jeff
Thank you, Jeff 🙂
Thanks Paul. I love the Furs. Anxiously awaiting their new album Made Of Rain.
You’re welcome Omar.
