Hey Paul,

If you are looking for more Phil Collins to rip…it might be idea (if you can get hold of it) to release the remix of We Said Hello Goodbye, which appears exclusively on the LP of the Playing for Keeps OST.

As far as I’m aware, it’s never been released on CD (as is a case with a number of his B-sides as well….)

Thanks again!

Actually the soundtrack was released on CD back in 1986 but I’m not sure it was such a remix included there…

Hmmm…maybe the remix is only on the vinyl release, in that case? My turntable is currently mothballed, but I’m confident the last time I listened to it that there was a tangible difference between the OST and the NJR versions….

Yes my friend, the thing is the OST has the ‘album version ‘ and the version in ‘No Jacket’ CD edition is that Remix, in fact is credited as a Remix. Did you know the song ‘In too Deep’ a great single by Phil from Genesis Group, was writen in first place for the OST… in a part of the lyrics you can hear. ‘you know I love you, I’m Playing for keeps..’ but later, the company decided to put a Phil solo track because Genesis was closer to finish the new album and they released In too Deep previously the… Read more »

It’s a hard to find, yes I gave my Vinyl since the first pressing. The reason is Duran Duran fans try to get it during all these years because it have included the Arcadia song specially to this albun 🙂

great post, thank you 🙂

one question: as far as i know there was no extended mix of this song in 1981, only these two remixes (ben liebrand extended 7:34 and padgham/collins 88 remix 5:09) which both were
produced in 1988, hence 7 years later.

is this correct?

Correct. I live in the UK, and went so far as to buy the imported German 12″ back in the day (there was no UK 12″), thinking it would be a remix….and it was the same mix as on the 7″…

…on the plus side, the 12″ did/does sound fantastic 🙂

Believe it or not, I’ve got this one on CD. I do not remember exactly where or when I bought it, but the sound of this 1988 CD from Virgin Records is just perfect.

This extended mix…. I remember back in the day hearing this and not being able to find this or get this 12″ anywhere. It even got the occasional radio play. Epic… for years I assumed it was a promo mix, for years I searched. Both mixes here are good, I am really looking forward to hearing this… 🙂 Thank you Paul.

Very synchronistic Paul ! I have been on a Hugh Padgham Bender myself lately, this being his most definitive work.

I have been doing a lot of research behind the scenes on the original track and what exact gear was was used. Here are two great articles on its secret sauce.

Another record that paints vivid images in my mind. Paul, this is such a haunting song and the remix really is such a beauty in itself. Ben Liebrand does an exquisite job with it and doesn’t ruin its original vibe nor intention. I keep on thinking of rainy streets and lights refracting through raindrops and a lone feline howling in the distance from the state of it being in heat. Muscular men and gorgeous women soaked to the skin and dancing a sensual tango, or something like that. This is glorious! I also love the subtle remix that follows from… Read more »

Jeff, you made me think of long nights filled with Yonderboi. I think you’ll like some of his work, too. Might even be on a sunny day as well 🙂 Try his first album, the reference to the Doors’ one is very obvious then, ofcourse.

Good timing on this, as Phil Collins still hasn’t signed off a re-mastered version of this to appear on Ben’s forthcoming Grand 12 Inches 16.
It’s a great mix without ruining the original, in fact I prefer this remix and forgotten how high it reached the charts.
