Happy New Year 2023!
This 1980 France Promo 12” Single is a rare collectors item for both ELO and Olivia Newton-John fans and sells for a nice chunk of change if you have the rare opportunity to find a copy. This promo is one of my favorite and prized possessions from my Olivia Newton-John collection. I hope you enjoy it.
The interesting thing about this particular release is that it contains not only Olivia’s hit single “Xanadu”, but it also contains a continuous mix of ELO’s “All Over The World” and “Last Train To London” as far as I know this mix is only available on this release. Also of note “All Over The World” is an edited version removing the crowd noise found on the intro of the “Xanadu” soundtrack LP version. “All Over The World” was released hot on the heels of the single “Xanadu” , this was the third Top 20 ELO single released from the 1980 soundtrack, peaking at #13 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. “Last Train To london” was was taken fom the 1979 ELO album “Discovery” the song was released in the US in early 1980 and peaked at #39 on the Billboard Hot 100.
“Xanadu” is performed by the Electric Light Orchestra and Olivia Newton-John. Newton-John sings the primary vocals, with ELO adding “parenthetic” vocals in the style of their other songs on the “Xanadu” soundtrack, along with providing the instrumentation. A rare collaboration for ELO, the single reached #1 in several countries and was the band’s only UK #1 single when it peaked there for two weeks in July 1980. The song peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.

Happy New Year to everyone around the world thank you for all of the support and love through the years. Here’s a Totally Awesome 2023!
I upgraded the cartridge/stylus to an Ortofon 2M Black PnP MkII. I enjoyed the Ortofon Concorde Elite but wasn’t quite satisfied with it so I returned it. I was able to find a 2M Black plug-and-play edition brand new for a great price so snagged it. The sound quality to my ears is night and day compared to the Concorde Elite. I was previously using an Ortofon 2M Black on my last turntable and loved it. I went with the 2M Black PnP MkII version for its ease of use no aligning etc just plug it into the tome arm set the tracking force and anti-skate you’re ready to go. I think I am now super satisfied with my new Technics SL-1200 MK7.
