BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986
Brand NEW 2019 transfer using a new piece of equipment the Alpha Design Labs GT40a USB DAC which I purchased a couple of days ago. I am still evaluating the GT40a but so far I am very impressed. This piece of equipment has been around for a while and has great reviews and won some awards along the way. Full specs and pictures coming over the weekend.

“If You Leave” is a 1986 song by the British synthpop group Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD). It was recorded for the soundtrack to the film Pretty in Pink (1986), in which it is played prominently during the final scene. Along with 1980’s “Enola Gay”, the track has been described as the band’s signature song.
“If You Leave” is the group’s highest-charting single in the United States, where it reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in May 1986. The song was also a Top 5 entry in Canada and New Zealand and charted at number 15 in Australia. A distinguishing track of the 1980s, it has had an enduring presence on radio.
The band wrote “If You Leave” after John Hughes decided to change the ending to Pretty in Pink after poor test audience reactions. Hughes had asked the band for a song for the new ending two days before they were due to begin a tour, and “If You Leave” was written and recorded in under 24 hours as a result. The song was deliberately written at a tempo of 120 BPM, to match the speed of “Don’t You (Forget About Me)”, which the dancers in the scene had initially danced to. Despite this, singer Andy McCluskey later noted that an editing error meant the dancing appears out of sync regardless. The original ending featured another OMD song, “Goddess of Love”, which was released on The Pacific Age later in 1986.
** Vinyl appears to be standard black, but is actually pressed on very dark brown, barely translucent vinyl, sometimes referred to as “audiophile” or “virgin” vinyl, possibly unstickered Quiex II pressing, which A&M often used in the 1980s.

The B Side is different to the European Maxi
Thank you!
Hi Paul, nice single, both A & B sides.
I just compared it against “Simple Minds – Don’t You forget About Me” and the speed doesn’t match at all. I wonder if there is a different version of either one, where the tempo is way different?
Thanks Paul!
Perhaps some Berlin next? (If you were inspired by the American B-52s/OMD/Berlin tour)
I will see what I can do Goodguy 🙂
This song is inevitably the soundtrack of the 80s. My generation. Thanks Paul for the trip down memory lane.
You’re welcome Chris 🙂
Thank you so much Paul for this re-rip. I just love this song and mix. OMD is one of my long-time favourite groups. Have a great weekend Paul and everyone else here on BTG.
You’re welcome, Daniel. Have a great weekend 🙂
Thank you, thank you! This one never gets old ❤️
You’re welcome Dean 🙂
I can’t wait to hear this new rip as well Paul. I love when you get new equipment because it really does add to your already stellar rips.
I agree with Song And Dance about this 12-inch. I do love the song, but there was probably more that could’ve been done. The flip-side is one of my favorites.
Have a fantastic weekend Paul and everyone else here at Burning The Ground.
Jeff
I always loved this mix and thought it was great I like how it stays pretty true to the original. 🙂
Paul, you know it’s great that you’re posting an O.M.D. single as I’ve read that there will be a new “best of” compilation which I’m looking forward to purchasing. I’ve made an O.M.D. comp using your fantastic rips because they are the 12-inch versions and I keep getting so much pleasure from it. And speaking of your marvelous rips, I found an MP3 disc of some of your jams and I am so happy with what you do with audio, whether it’s MP3 or flac. You have so much talent and your generosity makes me so euphoric. And thanks to… Read more »
I just LOVE this single! I had it back on the day, I think my old copy must be absolutely destroyed, because all the times I played it. The Remixed Version of La Femme Accident is exclusive to the American and Canadian single, and haven’t been released on CD so far. Still waiting for Crush and The Pacific Age to get the Deluxe remastering. It’s so beautiful to hear this again! Thank you very much Paul!
Thanks for the info Seb I wasn’t aware that La Femme Accident was an exclusive. I also have a gatefold 12″ of that track too 🙂
You cast aside the Schiit Mani already Paul?
I still have it but I am more impressed with the GT40a.
Oooooh, I´m so excited (that I just can´t hide it 🙂 ) and looking forward to listening to your re-rip when I come home. To be frank, I´ve never been a fan of the 12inch version of If You Leave. It could have, it should have been made to much better but the song itself is very nice and I quite like it. The b-side I just love. “La Femme Accident” has always been one of my favourites by OMD and I love both 12inch versions. Thank you Paul. And I hope you are happy with the GT40a.
You’re welcome Song And Dance loving the GT40a so far. 🙂
Thanks Paul. I hope you can also post a brand new transfer of Secret (’88) in the future too.
Ditto!
