BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985
“Soul Kiss” is the title track from Australian singer Olivia Newton-John’s thirteenth studio album released in October 1985, a slinky number written by Mark Goldenberg (writer of ‘Automatic’ for the Pointer Sisters), was a moderate hit for a lead single reaching the Top 20 in the US and Australia and became a Number One single in Norway.
The 7″ Edit has never appeared on CD. The B-side “Electric” is a non-album track which did not appear on CD except for in the Japan and Europe markets.

One of my favorite singles by Olivia. Never understood that it didn’t do very well in the charts. Great production, great score, Olivia at her best. Thanks for this single version.
MCA Records kind of pushed Olivia into this sexy role for the album she was not quite comfortable with it. She also became pregnant during its release so there was not a lot of promotion.

A cool a-side and a hot b-side. Can´t get better than. I love both tracks; to be exact, Electric is one of my favourite ONJ tracks ever. I have the original 11-track cd in its German edition, and Electric certainly is the track I played most.

I have to comment on the GRAPHIC DESIGN of this single. It’s beautiful. The photography and typography is just gorgeous. Lotus’ is what I call these mid to late 80s releases.

Thank you for the artwork details. There are other singles covers that you’ve shared that are also great. I’m big on vintage art direction and album cover design methods, much of these can still work today, the design styles and photography.

My college radio station which was in the Adult Contemporary format during the day, used to play this a lot and I have nice memories of it. Very cool that you’ve included the flip-side. I can’t wait to check it out.

Thanks, Paul! I have never heard of this song and am surprised it is listed as #20 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 (which is a weekly stat)…strange that it would be listed so high and I’ve never heard of it. Maybe it only charted for a few weeks.
