Burning The Ground Exclusive 1997
“Hopelessly Devoted to You” is a song recorded by English-born Australian singer, songwriter and actress Olivia Newton-John for Grease: The Original Soundtrack from the Motion Picture (1978). It was written and produced by John Farrar and originally performed by Newton-John in the film version of the musical Grease (1978). The song was released in Australia in August 1978 and peaked at number two. It reached number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number seven on the Adult Contemporary chart. On the country chart, “Hopelessly Devoted to You” peaked at number 20 and was her first top 20 country hit in two years. Newton-John performed the song at the 21st Grammy Awards in 1979.
The song received an Oscar nomination as Best Original Song at the 51st Academy Awards.
In 1997 American electronic music producer, DJ and remixer Victor Calderone was commissioned to remix the track as promotion for the 20th Anniversary Theatrical re-release of “Grease”. However the remixes were never officially released and remain a sought after ONJ collectible.
In August 2022 after Olivia Newton-John’s passing the song charted once again reching #5 on the US Billboard Digital Song sales Chart.

Thank you, Paul.
OMG, thank you for this!!
AMAZING SHARE!!! Thank you for posting this rarity! I saw ONJ about 5 years ago in concert and she put on an amazing show. I think she would absolutely LOVE this remix, because that seems to have been her personality: Energetic and uplifting! For the people below who think this remix doesn’t do the original song justice: It’s not supposed to!!! The purpose of a good remix is to bring a song – that would otherwise never be heard in a club – to the dancefloor!! That’s what makes certain remixes such massive bangers. Take Professional Widow for example, a… Read more »
Martika, Very well said. I think this remix is splendid and doesn’t deserve the harsh criticism leveled at it. And brilliant of you to mention the “Professional Widow” remix. The original song didn’t have the impact that the remix had. Very clever to turn Miss Amos into the “black widow” and do what the spider does in real life. You can’t get the hook out of your head. I love this Olivia remix because it is uplifting and anthemic. I can imagine this getting some revival club play. We all know the words and the mix is fierce and slamming.… Read more »
I agree, Jeff! And this is why I love DjPaulT’s site … besides his meticulous vinyl transfers, he manages to always post rare vinyls that would otherwise never see the light of day. I have been an avid collector of White Label pressings since the 90s.
Thanks, Martika and Jeff for all of your love and support. You both have said everything I wanted to say about these mixes. 🙂
So much that you love olivia and put a version nothing to see.
The original version was spoiled
There are songs that cannot be remixed. And that is very clear here. If the Grease mix in 1990 was already a horror, this one knocks the bottom out of the barrel. It doesn’t do Olivia Newton John justice. And one of the DJ rules was broken: NEVER make a slow song danceable! Because the arrangement doesn’t fit.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Paul, thank you for surprising us with amazing music.Likewise you are amazing for being able to put this together during your time of grief.
Hang in there!
You’re welcome, Jon 🙂
Thank you so much for providing this. I know what you must be feeling—having your idol and favorite singer pass. I know how I will be feeling when that time comes for my favorite signer and idol. Blessings and peace.
Thank you, Timothy 🙂
These mixes are killer!!! I imagine them causing real pandemonium on the dance floor!!! They pack a punch and lead one to euphoria!!! Thank you, Paul, for this very rare promo. It means so much because the way you love Olivia and that YOU ARE DANCE MUSIC!!
Jeff
