“Remember the Time” is a 1992 single by American singer and songwriter Michael Jackson. It was released by Epic Records on January 14, 1992, as the second single from Jackson’s eighth studio album, Dangerous. The song was written and composed by Teddy Riley, Jackson, and Bernard Belle, and produced by Riley and Jackson. The song’s lyrics are written about remembering having fallen in love with someone.
“Remember the Time” was generally well-received by contemporary critics. The song was commercially successful, peaking at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Billboard Hot R&B Singles as well as the Mainstream Top 40 chart. It is certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Internationally, the song was a Top 10 hit in nine countries, peaking at No.1 in New Zealand, at No.2 in Spain, and No.3 in the United Kingdom.
“Black or White” was released by Epic Records on November 11, 1991, as the first single from his eighth studio album, Dangerous. He co-wrote, composed, and produced it with Bill Bottrell. The song is a fusion of pop-rock, dance, and hip hop. Epic Records described the song as “a rock ‘n’ roll dance song about racial harmony”.
“Black or White” peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on December 7, 1991, making it the fastest chart-topper since the Beatles’ “Get Back”. It stayed there for a total of seven weeks. Jackson became the first artist to have number one hits in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s with the song. It is certified 2x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Around the world, “Black or White” hit number one in 20 countries, including the US, the UK, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Turkey, Zimbabwe, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the Eurochart Hot 100. Dang it. I was sad to figure this out this morning, too. I get upset with record companies mis-labeling tracks, especially when I pay for it.
Love this! You are KILLIN’ it Paul. Thank you!!
This little 7″ streak is giving me the big happies! Thank you!!!!
What a nice surprise from the King of Pop! I echo Jeff – looking forward to hearing the flip-side. IMHP Black Or White was the highlight of the album, with Slash on guitar… Thanks as alway Paul!!
You’re welcome, Retro Hound sadly the b-side mix omits the Slash guitar and gets a very C&C Music Factory House Edit. I love it though 🙂
Looking forward to hearing the flip-side. As Fred said below, there were a lot of remixes during this album release. Thank you Paul for all that you do for us.
Jeff
You’re welcome, Jeff 🙂
One of the best singles off essentially his best, most complex and gorgeous album. Thank you Paul.
You’re welcome, Brock 🙂
Thanks, Paul! 2 great songs from that timeframe! His Dangerous album produced a lot of remixes, especially on promos and 2×12″ promos. It would be fantastic if you could throw us a few sometime soon. They are real treasures.
Have a great day!
Hi Fred,
Missing you as of late. So wanted your opinion concerning the “Octomnipent Zeitgeist Medley.” Hoped you like it as much as I do.
Have a nice day!!
Jeff
Hi Jeff. I’ve been crazy busy with a new job and forgot to post/thank Paul the past few days. As for that medley, I’m a bit torn…for 1984 and the skills/technology available, it was a good medley mechanically…but it was a bit predictive. I am biased towards the Ultimix medleys, especially the 1986 and 1988 Flashback Medleys which are hands down incredible in my book. But to be fair, between 1984 and 1986 there were far more remixes and acappellas and dubs and 12 inch mixes in general which allow better/more creative medleys to be created. Lastly, I have forever… Read more »
I prefer Hot Tracks but I am biased since they were based here in Tulsa for a while. I thought the Octomnipent Zeitgeist Medley.” was genius. I have some of the Ultimix medleys and think they are good but HT was my first love and dive in remix services.
Funny how our biases affect us. 🙂 When you heard the HT Medley for the first time back in 1984, that pre-dated Ultimix and was likely a hot medley for the very fact that these dj-only remix services didn’t really exist. I heard the Ultimix stuff starting in 1986 which was my first intro to remix services…so I already missed HT and thus fell in love with Ultimix and then Funkymix. I probably didn’t find HT until 1992 or later and by then there were all sorts of new (and older) remix services that I didn’t know about in my… Read more »
Hi Fred, Hope your new job is going well and finds you happy. Thanks for your opinion concerning the mega-mix. I think it’s quite genius myself along with the “1984 Medley” by the same team. I am very, very familiar with the Ultimix Flashback Medleys. Bradley D. Hinkle is a sonic God with what he did to these mixes. We should all remember though that Brad did come from Hot Tracks to form Ultimix with co- company founder Les Massengale. Ultimix is still a phenomenal company with mixes to this day done very, very well. I do miss all the… Read more »
I never really got the 2×12″ issues in the 90s they started cramming way too many mixes onto vinyl and the quality suffered in my opinion.
Paul, do you have this single?

Check under Rarities (on CD)

I don’t like the sound on this CD. I think vinyl will sound better.
Although it doesn’t sound as loud as it often does in such cases. (see attachment)
I don’t like any ABBA remasters. I prefer early CDs or vinyl rips.
I listen to the music on my Hifi equipment with good cables and I can assure you that ABBA sounds best on POLAR vinyl Records and Japanese SHMCD releases. If you want the best 12 inch mix of “Voulez-Vous”. Get the POLAR 12 inch release. The grooves are wider and with 45 rpm you will get clean sound from the record.
Are you talking about this reissue?

Yes 🙂
I will see if I can locate it I agree the vinyl will sound better. 🙂
Thanks! I feel like Moonwalker!
