Melissa Manchester – Energy (US 12″ Promo)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

“Energy” is a song performed by American singer Melissa Manchester, from her 1985 album Mathematics.

The song was arranged by veteran songwriter Greg Mathieson and was released as the second single from the album, following the underperformance of the lead single “Mathematics”, MCA hoped to reverse the album’s fortune by releasing this Hi-NRG track with an aim for the club market.

Melissa Manchester filmed a video clip to promote the song, which sees the singer and her band in a sort of industrial-setting stage performing the song.

The single was released on 7″ and 12″ formats featuring remixes, but it failed to chart either on the Billboard Hot 100 or the dance charts and failed to chart elsewhere.

Thanks for posting this! I found this same promo 12″ single back when it was first released, and I play it a LOT back then. I made a rip of the vinyl maybe 15 years ago, but my rips at home were never nearly as good as yours, so I’m so glad to be able to upgrade this in my iTunes library! It was my favorite track from that album — and I’m still upset that this album has never been issued on CD!

Paul! This post is such a treat. I love Melissa’s synth-pop efforts from the 80s. Do you know if an extended version of “City Nights” from the EMERGENCY album was ever released?

City Nights is a great song but as DJPaul already said for whatever reasons it was never a single or 12″ so no further version exists.

What a big surprise. I knew about Melissa Manchester but I never heard that song. I love it and the remixes are fine. Thank you Paul for introducing me to this single and thanks for your daily gifts. We are so lucky to have you and BTG is really the most beautiful place on the web.

It’s with so much enthusiasm I have for you Paul and Burning The Ground that just lifts my spirits. I am just so impressed by your musical tastes; you just can’t be (Thank Goodness!) pigeonholed!! I’m not sure if I’ve ever said this to you, but you are like this musical prism, reflecting and refracting so much light and sonic colors. You are the full rainbow spectrum of all sorts of rhythmic hues Paul. You certainly keep us on our toes and give us all these surprises. WOW!!! You are a jubilation in my life. I honestly love Ms. Manchester.… Read more »
