“Male Stripper” was the debut single by Hi-NRG band Man 2 Man also known as Man to Man. Formed in New York City the band consisted of brothers Miki Zone and Paul Zone.
“Male Stripper” was the bands biggest hit, teaming up with cult electro producer Man Parrish. Originally released in the United Kingdom in 1986 on the Bolts Records label, “Male Stripper” was a big club hit throughout the autumn and peaked at No. 64 on the UK Singles Chart. In early 1987, “Male Stripper” charted again in the UK, and this time the song became an even bigger hit, spending five weeks in the Top 10 and two weeks at No. 4. Miki Zone had died of spinal meningitis caused by AIDS on December 31, 1986. “Male Stripper” was a breakout crossover pop hit and in March of 1987 Man 2 Man appeared on a segment in the European music TV show “Top Of The Pops”. Due to the death of Miki, Paul Zone decided to rename the act Man to Man.

This is the second issue of this release due to the untimely death of Miki Zone (identifiable by sleeve’s blue typeface). The original issue has sleeves with dark pink, orange or green typefaces, and more importantly the track positions are transposed.

I really enjoyed this one. I wasn’t yet clubbing when it came out, yet I could imagine it was wild crazy fun on the dance floor. I could easily hear this song updated a bit and remixed by today’s DJs and filling the biggest of dancefloors at gay clubs and circuit parties.

The reason that this issue has the ‘sides flipped’ is because this tune was selling well but ‘just’ not enough to enter the Top 40 !
It was mentioned in the Music Press at the time, that this Label intentionally deleted the record from sale because of this.
Then once Orders were big enough they issued this release & the rest was history [ie it eventually Charted !].
I’d Heard there was a Picture Disc but nowhere had it & there was a ‘Remix 12”’ which had a different ‘Stripper’ on the cover.
This music sounds like stale poppers. (Initially : What? No one commenting on the artwork?)

Awesome. Been waiting years for the re-up. But on listening a second time i can confirm above mentioned error. It’s very small and is at 3.11 / 3.12 timeframe on track 1 not 3.13
yeah there is a couple of drop outs this in the pressing.I am going to try to fix it and provide a new link.
Hi Paul. I have the dark pink copy mentioned in the commentary (and the 12″ pic disc!). I played this a LOT back in the day. And I was at London club The Hoist a month or so ago and was amazed to hear it being played there. Still sounded great.

Unfortunately, at 3:13 there is an error in track 01.
I see that it is a problem in the record pressing. I will try to fix it and provide a new link if i am able to.
Thank you very much for your efforts! Now there is no more drop-out at 3:13. That’s fine. But now there is a “hiccup” in the melody of the synthesizer loop.

How intensely Magic Mike Paul!! I love this record! Brings back so many wonderful memories. First off, I love Man Parrish and secondly this was so much fun. I love singing along and bumping and grinding to this song. I am so STIMULATED for your rip, I know it’s going to be a hot one Paul!!
