Nik Kershaw – When A Heart Beats (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

A. Front

“When A Heart Beats” is a song by the English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nik Kershaw. It was released as the lead single from his third solo studio album, Radio Musicola, being Kershaw’s eighth single. The single features the track, “Wild Horses” as the B-side, which was originally released on Kershaw’s previous album “The Riddle”.

Though hitting #27 in the UK Singles Chart towards the end of 1985, “When a Heart Beats” marked the beginning of a downturn of Kershaw’s fortunes on the singles charts, as it was the first time that a lead single from a Kershaw album failed to hit the Top 20 in the US/UK.

Not Nik at his finest.I’n an huge fan,but I have to be hoenset to my point of view:he made better thing, even lately. I prefer sharply the 7″. Plus [ I wrote about it just for the mere curiosity of the few or the many that didn’t know about it] I’ve read in an intervieiew he hated the the 12″ because MCA did while he was on tour or somewhere else – now I don;t rember well – and he wasn’t consulted at all about it. Particularly,he hated the extended mix of “Wild Horses” [one of the best tracks out of… Read more »

So great to have Nik Kershaw here Paul. I’m a big fan. His “Wouldn’t It Be Good” was one of the first music videos that made an impression on me (sadly, I did not have my MTV when it first came out!)I loved his music and had friends who adored him. So thrilled to have an extended version from his “Radio Musicola” because this was a fantastic album. Again, many things for giving us the artists and the records we crave.

It’s been a while (over two years) since your last Nik post, Paul, so I’m thrilled that you have returned to, in my opinion, one of the most underrated songwriters to have come out of the 80s! Ironically, the Radio Musicola was, as you say, the turning point of Nik’s chart succes, yet I feel it’s one of his strongest albums. I’ve remained a fan since the start and have seen him live several times. He fails to disappoint! Have any others of his singles you haven’t ripped/posted yet? Many thanks, mate!

Oh yeah, Nik Kershaw! Excellent post Paul. I’m back from holiday, and home coming begins just great. Thank you. Hope you’ll do more Nik Kershaw. Superb 80’s artist, great tunes, he released some very nice 12 inches mixes.
