“Double Dutch” is a 1983 single by Malcolm McLaren. It is taken from his debut album Duck Rock. “Double Dutch” is the follow-up to his successful debut single, “Buffalo Gals”, and reached number 3 on the UK Singles Chart, making it his highest-charting single release. The album version is a slight re-edit of the single, with part of the original middle eight moved to the end of the track.
Mbaqanga group The Boyoyo Boys took legal action against Mclaren over the similarity of “Double Dutch” with their own hit “Puleng”. After a lengthy legal battle in the UK the matter was settled out of court, with payment made to the South African copyright holders, songwriter Petrus Maneli and publisher Gallo Music, but Horn and Mclaren retained their songwriting credits.

Hey, ebo, ebo, ebonettes!
When some crazy dude teams up with a great producer magic happens! And it’s not even a song about broken hearts or drugs, LOL. Dunno if I was, back then, more amazed about Buffalo Gals or Double Dutch, it was some cool refreshing craziness!
Thank you!
Love this man’s work. If you have any more (his or World Famous Supreme Team), I’d love to hear it. If not, thank you for the trip down memory lane.
Thanks man!

Hi Paul,
Thanks for this wonderful 12 ” which I have been hunting for quite awhile. Don’t know if “Buffalo Gals” 12 inch has the extended version or just the album version?
Thanks again for this wonderful single.
Steve

Thank you so much Paul for this re-rip. I’ve been looking for that for such a long time. You’re really making me happy. The quality of the rip is so good that we might think it has been remastered from original mastertapes! Fantastic work! Such a shame that I have discovered this wonderful site only a few days ago. But now I will always stay tuned. A thousand thanks and I hope a lot of people will support you like I did and will do. Because you deserve it so much.

Paul, you are so glorious to re-up this track! I love Mr. McLaren and all that he did for music. Hey, he was the one who introduced me to scratching via his single “Buffalo Gals” and I’ve always loved his cross-cultural pollination of musical genres. I mean, I first heard of vogueing because of him. Loved his opera infused tracks and swooned over his gorgeous single “Revenge of the Flowers” with Francoise Hardy. The man is inspirational and beyond amazing. I have a lot of his singles and CD’s, but his 12-inch versions are not really available. Thanks for this… Read more »
Hugs Jeff you are so very welcome 🙂
Thanks Paul. I love everything from Mr. Mclaren. Do you also have Waltz Darling?
You’re welcome Omar. I will check and see i know I have one more single just not sure which one.
