“Open Your Heart” is a song by American singer-songwriter Madonna. It was released as the fourth single from her third studio album True Blue on November 12, 1986, by Sire Records.

“Open Your Heart” debuted at 51 the week ending December 6, 1986, on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It had a gradual rise and subsequently peaked the chart on February 7, 1987, becoming Madonna’s fifth number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The single also had its success on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart reaching number-one on February 14, 1987. The single was Madonna’s sixth entry on the Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary chart where it reached a peak of 12. In Canada, the song debuted at number 83 on the RPM chart on December 13, 1986, and reached a peak position of eight for the chart issue dated February 21, 1987. It placed at 68 on the RPM Year-end chart for 1987.

In the United Kingdom, the single debuted on the UK Singles Chart at number eight and subsequently reached a peak of four on December 13, 1986. The single was on the chart for nine weeks in total and was certified silver by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) on December 1, 1986. According to The Official Charts Company, the song has sold 195,000 copies there. It also peaked at number four in Europe, thus becoming the only single from True Blue not to top the Eurochart Hot 100. Elsewhere, like in Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and France, it reached within the top 40 of the singles chart.

Hey, Paul, I think I’ve found the source of that ear worm I mentioned earlier today! At least, I hope this is the one…

Thanks very much for helping to keep this music alive and the links active!

Rhino used your transfer of “Open Your Heart (Dub)” on the download/streaming-only 35th Anniversary Edition of True Blue.

I just downloaded the file linked here on this blog post and it’s quite different from the 35Anniv file. That one doesn’t seem to be vinyl sourced at all, is much louder overall, has more noticeable panning, and plays about 3 seconds longer/slower.

I’m looking for Open Your Heart (7″ Remix) issued in Europe and I can’t find it. Actually I’ve found a compressed version that sucks,

This to me at the time of release was one of the best remixes out. Great track, thank you.

Whenever I watch the video clip with that young Madonna as hot as hell, I can’t help getting excited.

Killer track, probably one of the most underrated hits of Miss M. Powerful, direct, honest and clear. This is the song I dedicated to my loved one at that time: the unresponsive guy of my lonely dreams. Yes, I was a victim of love… I was young. I was innocent.

Thank you so much, Paul – I’ve been a long time fan of your website. I was about 17 years old when I originally bought this 12″ – I think it was the first 12″ I ever bought. It remains my favorite Madonna extended version. Thank you! I swear I remember an edited version of the extended version being played on the radio back in 1986/87 – it was not a remix or a single edit – it was an actual edit of the extended version – it had that awesome intro – still looking for it and hoping it… Read more »

Paul, you always touch me deeply with the music you post. And this one is going to my soul! I just love this remix. Steve Thompson and Michael Barbiero did such a phenomenal job on this track. The track is awesome to begin with but this remix takes it to whole new heights. Songs and remixes like this one makes me really miss the dance music of yesterday. Such talent, musicianship and art and craftmanship. I swoon over records like this one. Paul, I can’t wait to hear this and salivate over all the hard work you did to bring… Read more »

To have him comment is really a huge honor. I am not star-struck by anyone but just to know that Steve (and others I hope from the era) are checking BTG out is amazing. Not sure if he comes here vs. Facebook but I would hope the producers/remixers showcased here understand the unique followers of this site and your work, Paul!

FRED!!!! Amen to what you said. This is a huge honor. Unlike you though, I do get very star-struck by the people behind the scenes. Plus, it makes me beam with pride because Paul deserves all the kudos and compliments for his tireless work.

Have a wonderful day Fred. It’s always nice to see you on here!

Paul, just saw this now and I am thrilled. Your site is keeping, not only the artists’ work alive, but those who worked behind the scenes. Sometimes i’m more of a fan of the producers, mixers, remixers and editors than the artist him or her self. WOW!! How cool is this and what an honor for you. Steve Thompson is one of the kings of the remix. I so wish other artists would stop on by and comment to offer behind the scenes info or some other experiences. Maybe John Robie might stop by and that would make my life!!… Read more »

Fantastic rip, Paul! This sounds far better than the cd single which sounds like someone set the treble to -6! Steve and Michael did a nice remix, as always.

I always loved her question at 8:55: “Well…are you gonna go out with me or not?”

Thanks so much!
