BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1979
“Christmas Rappin’ “ is a 1979 single by American rapper and producer Kurtis Blow. “Christmas Rappin’ ” was the first Hip-Hop song released on a major label. Kurtis recorded this with the help of producers Robert Ford and J.B. Moore. They took it to Mercury Records, who signed Kurtis to a 2-single deal, under the condition that If both singles were successful, he would get an album deal. This was the first single, and it did very well. The second single was “The Breaks,” and it became the first rap song to be certified as a gold record, selling over 500,000 copies. Kurtis got the album deal and became the first rapper signed to a major label. Every Christmas, “Christmas Rappin” ” would sell more copies. After 8 years, it went gold.

Hey Paul,
Thanks for another great year!
Maybe when you return you could post Bing Crosby and David Bowie doing “Little Drummer Boy”?
Merry Christmas Paul and thanks for everything.
uh…am I def or something, this track has the same bass line as Queen’s Another One Bites The Dust, only it was released a year earlier? Could some bass player enlighten me!
Or are they just so similar? Non the less a fat sounding track, internationally not so prominent as The Breaks, but all the old-school Hip-Hop stuff always were very popular with myself.
This one will fit in nicely in my old school rap collection. Thanks!
You’re welcome MillCity9 🙂
A delight to see this one posted. One of my favorites from 1979.
Thanks Paul 🙂
You’re welcome Junior 🙂
Hey Paul!
Please more Alphaville tracks!
Thanxx
Buenas PaulT, muy buena tu pagina, te visito a diario. Queria saber si tienes este tema para poder subirlo: NO NAME – Fashion. Desde ya muchas gracias y felices fiestas
Wow, such a flashback this song is! I remember going to a teen disco back in ’79 and this was a MONSTER FLOOR FILLER. They would play it throughout the year and not just at Christmas. The song created such a pandemonium and we all loved it. I was so into hip hop at this early stage and this is was one of my favorites. Thank you Paul for breaking this one out around this time of year. It is so fitting and really is a sentimental trip for me.
Say “HO!”
Jeff
You’re very welcome Jeff this song is a record that demands to be in every collection. I remember roller skating to this when I was around nine years old so much fun 🙂
Gosh Paul, I love you so much. Thanks for being in our lives and for all the treasures you so generously share with the world. You are so special and a real Angel to everyone. I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas. And to all the dear readers of BTG, you guys are AWESOME too!! Happy Holidays to one and all!!
Jeff
Happiest of Holidays Jeff!
