Judas Priest – Turbo Lover (Hi-Octane Mix) (US 12″)

Burning The Ground Exclusive 1986

“Turbo Lover” is a single by heavy metal band Judas Priest from their album Turbo. Unlike the album, most of the reception for this song has been positive, and it is considered a Judas Priest classic. The song’s lyrics have been described as being about “auto”-eroticism.

AllMusic writer, Steve Huey, in his review of the song’s parent album Turbo, called it “easily the best song on the record”. Decibel Magazine described the song as “one of the classiest songs in [Judas Priest’s discography]”. Loudwire ranked the song at number 10 on their list of the “10 Best Judas Priest Songs”.

I absolutely love this song, original and remix! I already had a digital Web copy of it, but your rip is so much better! Thank you for treating this masterpiece with so much love and diligence! It’s always nice to find great remixes of ROCK/METAL/PUNK songs, as they are super rare … but that’s what I always loved about bands like Def Leppard and Billy Idol (especially the Mother Of Mercy remix). In fact, I believe that all the remixes significantly contributed to the success of Def Leppard’s Hysteria album … all the remixes really drove the singles sales, which… Read more »

I do remember this track. I don’t know if it was “Hi Octane” but I do know the music got stuck in my head and it’s still there to this day. And I’m not even a metal fan!

Thank you, PaulT

I love the original but this version is bad ass too. Should be definitely included on the anniversary release of Turbo. Only available on “Priest, Live and Rare” album until now! Thank you so much Paul!!!! Best wishes from Argentina.

Thanks for the post, Paul! While I love your traditional new wave and synthpop posts, I always appreciate it when you dip your toes into ’80s rock. Takes me right back to junior high.

Thanks again!

Wow!! I think Jeff said it best, but I’ll just add that you definitely have some rock fans and any more Judas Priest/metal/rock posts are always welcome and appreciated!! Have a great weekend.

Hot Damn!!!! Wow, Paul!!! What a great way to wrap up the week. I love rock mixes so very much and it’s funny too, because back when these records first came out, I can’t say I was a fan of metal music in general. Hearing them now in a present-day context, they really move me. They’re quite danceable and ooze testosterone which I love. Songs having to do with cars and sex, ahem, really make my motor run. So, J.G. Ballard “Crash” and the idea of “auto-eroticism” puts a perverse smile on my face and straining fabric below the belt.… Read more »

Noice, thanks for this! If you could also see your way to ripping the 12″ of Living After Midnight with the live b-sides (CBS 12-8379) you will have a fan for life 🙂

Oh, hell yes. Again, ripped this one myself decades ago, but this will no doubt sound way better. Thank you!
