“(Closest Thing To) Perfect” is the theme song from the 1985 film “Perfect” recorded by American R&B singer Jermaine Jackson. The film starring John Travolta, and Jamie Lee Curtis however was not Perfect and was neither a commercial nor a critical success. The single was released on Arista Records and peaked on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at #67 on August 6, 1985. The song also reached #63 on the Hot Black Singles Chart.

I don’t remember this single, so this is fresh to these ears. I still play your rips of Jermaine’s Dynamite single that you posted in the past.
Thanks Paul 🙂
You’re welcome, Marco 🙂
What a Perfect continuation from yesterday! Great dance beats, I think Jermaine got a bit short-changed. But then again, how could anyone keep up with his brother Michael?! This should’ve been a bigger hit. So excited to have this in your new transfer along with Nona from yesterday. Big thank you Paul!!
You’re welcome, Retro Hound. I agree with you Michael could not be matched.
Fantastic! I love all of John’s films that involve dancing and romantic storylines like this that speak to their times. Twist of Fate and one of my all time favorites, soundtracks related to Travolta is ‘STAYIN’ ALIVE’, what great music, all songs are great. Hopefully you’ll transfer singles from that album if possible. Thank you Paul!
Maybe you meant “Two Of a Kind” of which “Twist Of Fate” was a single from that amazing soundtrack.Travolta had some flops with great soundtracks. I think I have a “Stayin’ Alive” Dance Mix album from Japan 🙂
That Staying Alive Dance Mix from Japan would be an excellent choice at some point!
Transferring the Japanese ‘Stayin’ Alive’ would be simply great Paul!
Yes, ‘Two Of A kind’! Love that movie, went to see it with my brother as a teen when it came out. Great memories. Olivia was wonderful with John, ‘Take A Chance’!
Thanks, any mix with Martinelli I am interested in.
You’re welcome, Martijn 🙂
How did I not see this coming when commented about it 🤯🤯🤯😆😆😆😆! LOVE this track. One of his best performances! He tried so hard to keep up with Michael, but I don’t know if he ever found the right musical team of producers and songwriters to completely take him next level like Michael & Quincy or Janet & Jam and Lewis. He has a lot of good ones though!
Thanks again!
It was a no-brainer I had to post these singles back-to-back. I agree it is one of Jermaine’s best 🙂
Thank you, Paul!! What a flashback this song is!! It’s got energy for days and is so fabulously 80’s!!! And that video is a wild celebration of crazy 80’s fashion and moves!! I know I played the single a few times on my college radio station!! I’m thrilled for this 12-inch mix! Jermaine Jackson did some terrific songs back in the day!! You are so wonderful taking us back, WAY BACK!!
Jeff
You’re welcome, Jeff. The 80s were such an amazing talented time to be a part of. 🙂
