Grace Jones – Love Is The Drug (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986

Front

“Love Is the Drug” is a 1975 song originally recorded by English band Roxy Music.

Grace Jones recorded “Love Is the Drug” on her Warm Leatherette album from 1980. The track was released as the second single, following “A Rolling Stone” in the UK while it was the first single to be released in Germany. After failing to chart in 1980, a remix of the Grace Jones version was released in 1986 following the 1985 compilation Island Life and then became a minor hit in the UK, peaking at no. 35. Music video was produced for the 1986 remix and directed by Matt Forrest and Bruno Tilley.

Hi Paul Thanks for another great rip. I have the 12″ picture disc and the clear vinyl 7″ of this release, but obviously therefore neither is exactly high-quality listening! I had the thrill of meeting Miss Jones at a book signing in London for the launch of her autobiography. She was even more Grace Jones than I could have hoped for. And she looked amazing: immaculately dressed, with a glass of red wine at her side, and looking 20 years younger than her age. I agree with Dirk – it’s about time there was a deluxe issue of Living My… Read more »

Another awesome rarity brought back to life! Great sounding rip too. Thanks for posting. Any chance you could re-up some of the older posts where the links aren’t working anymore? Some of that stuff looks classic!

Many many thanks!! One of them I don’t have on vinyl. Only the 7”. So you did it again, Paul. Now there are really only few left for re-publication, albeit via non-official channels.. (Nipple-7” anyone?)(Didn’t you have The Apple-12” on your site earlier on? I have it myself, found a decent rip, but it’s gone. Posted it on youtube, in awaitance of the Living My Life-deluxe I bet hundreds of thousands of GJ-lovers are eagerly hoping for.) Besides, does anyone know about the bio-movie release date?

Thanks for this Paul. Another great remix by Paul Groucho Smykle of ‘Love is the Drug’ that I think was exclusive to this 12″. And the B side contains a different mix of ‘Living My Life’ from the one that appeared on the Compass Point Sessions CD in 1998. So full of rare mixes!

I remember when the video premiered at a local (New Orleans) disco. The whole crowd stopped dancing, watching the video and, when it ended, gave it a wild round of applause. I’ve never seen that reaction to a music video before or since. (And thanks for sharing this remix!) of the

Always appreciate it when you post a Grace Jones single – thanks Paul! I think this almost completes her 1986 Island Life era! Only one left now (i think) is the ’86 mixes of Private Life and Jamaican Guy from the Uk 12″… Any chance that’s on your list?

Thanks, Paul. Can never get enough Grace. She’s the best! But I wish she wouldn’t take so damn long to release a new album. Maybe this year (fingers crossed).

Grace Jones is one of the few artists who can consistently take other people’s songs and totally make them her own. Her version of Private Life may as well have been written for her because the original Pretenders version is rubbish by comparison.

You indeed reign supreme Paul!! This song is absolutely one of my favorite Grace Jones records. I so remember the music video back in ’86 and it really had me spellbound!! Thanks so much for posting this classic. I am so overwhelmed with excitement and pleasure Paul. This has been such an exceptional week for postings. Songs that I have been obsessed with for ages and to finally have them in such quality is oh so tremendous. Thank you immensely and intensely Paul.

Have a marvelous weekend my friend.

The link still appears to be incorrect in the email.
It is, however, correct on the webpage itself.
In the email, all of the file names have a hyphen in front of them.
On the website, they do not.
