I had this album on cassette as a teen — somehow — I think I got it free as a promo. I enjoyed it! It’s very het’ro catnip camp Prince-adjacent. “Lovers Lane” is also good. It’s all a bit funny — intentional or not.
Many many thanks for all the music.
Kalypso, from Brasil
WOW! Never heard of this before, but it definitely sounds like it was produced by Prince! And the moaning sounds like Karen Finley. THANK YOU for this great track!
Since Georgio was from Minneapolis, I’m surprised his first release was not on Paisley Park or another area label, rather on Macola Records, primarily an L.A. pressing plant for Motown and many upstart hip-hop artists that first got in the music marketing side in 1986 with the mega-smash “Rumours” by Timex Social Club. (from Discogs:) “Originally a Picture Perfect/Macola 12”, re-released on Motown 45 in 1987 [Billboard, February 28, 1987 p. 60: “Macola’s Don MacMillan revealed that the company’s latest r&b hit, “Sex Appeal” by Georgio Allentini (Picture Perfect Records), was just picked up by Motown. There was something in the water in Minneapolis, Lol! Love this dance track from Georgio. Underrated dance pop and underrated artist for sure! The Purple One was so influential you could have countless clones and still never get enough… Thank you Paul!! On a side note, interesting how the edit version is the same length as the album version and almost a minute longer than the commercial 45 rpm version. Any insight into this Paul?
Sorry Retro Hound no insight lol. I do know that Motown later signed Georgio and a second 12″ was issued with a “New Mix”. 🙂
thanks!!
You’re welcome, Raymond 🙂
Turns out he had 3 albums?!! Who knew???
Georgio! Oh my they REALLY wanted a Prince-clone-lite who was more of a dance vibe! Did your ever hear his whole album??? What a flashback!!!! The mixes will be fun no doubt!
I never knew he was also native to Minnesota! 🤯☔️
I never bought his albums so I need to check them out.
Sexappeal is definitely his best album. His self titled 2nd album had a couple bright spots & Rollin, his 3rd, is ok & mainly for Georgio fans. It had no hits. I used to love packing the dance floor with his early stuff.
Speaking of Minneapolis, I’m trying to complete my Jesse Johnson collection. You wouldn’t happen to have any of his stuff? I can trade some Georgio…8 singles & 3 albums.
This Is Divine!! Thanks so much, Paul!!! I really eat up these Prince inspired tracks. Gosh, how I miss the Purple One so!!!
Jeff
