Originally posted, June 16, 2014

“Blue Savannah” is a song by British synth-pop duo Erasure that was issued as a single on 26 February 1990, from their fourth studio album, Wild! (1989). The song was written by members Vince Clarke and Andy Bell. Mute Records released it in Europe as the album’s third single, and Sire Records released it in the United States as the album’s second single. Considered one of the band’s signature songs, the duo still perform it regularly in concerts. It has been described as an uplifting love song; the instrumentation is crisp and heavily synthesized, accented with sweeping, programmed piano.

“Blue Savannah” became one of Erasure’s most successful singles, peaking at number three on the UK singles chart. It also returned the band to the Top 20 in Germany, where the song hit number thirteen. The release of the single brought about the usual array of remixes and B-sides. Although several club mixes of “Blue Savannah” were issued commercially, the US promo only Shep Pettibone “Out of the Blue” mix proved to be most popular in dance clubs.

In the US “Blue Savannah” peaked at #44 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Club Play Chart.

The Shep Pettibone mixes were only originally released on this U.S. promo.

One of my favourite Shep Pettibone mixes, which was missing from the Shep Pettibone – Dance Masters release in 2021.

Thanks for these new rips, Paul 🙂

Great mix, so many different 12″ singles to chose from for this one. My first introduction to this single was the commercial single, which had the awesome William Orbit mix of Supernature. Then discovered the single version of Runaround on the Underground that had full lyrics. And of course this version, which has the best mixes of the bunch… Almost forgot and then… there was a very limited 2020 UK RSD 12″ that had most of the mixes and the new Vince Clarke remix. However, I must say it was truly a great time when this was NEW and a… Read more »

Hi Paul

the 12″ B Side “Break my stride” is more like a dub version which isnt very good whereas the B Side of the 7″ is very good and much more in keeping with the original feel of the track. Would be fabulous if you post the 7″ at some point.

Sad to hear about Seymour Stein, President of Sire Records. These such gems gave Sire a Real Standard in the rankings of Labels.

A spectacular song, Paul!!! Karen is overjoyed by this post!! Actually, it’s her birthday, so this is a fabulous gift! We both can’t thank you enough for this. Mr. Pettibone did an out-of-this-world remix of this track!! It made my heart swell too when I saw this come up on my screen. Sire Records was one of my favorite labels for music. I mean, there’s Madonna, Soft Cell, Depeche Mode, Book Of Love, Daniel Dax, Erasure, M, Underworld, Ministry, Talking Heads, Erasure and so much more!! Much love to Seymour Stein, who sadly passed away recently, for creating a phenomenal… Read more »
