Duran Duran – Do You Believe In Shame? (UK 10″ Limited Edition)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1989

I originally had something else planned for today but after waking to the news of the unconscionable act of terrorism in Las Vegas my plans quickly changed. I wanted to post something to convey the heart break and sadness that so many of us are feeling on this awful day. I don’t have any profound words to say except that I am sending Love & Light to all of those who are suffering.

-Paul

“Do You Believe In Shame?” is a song by Duran Duran. Released on 10 April 1989, it was the third and final single from the Big Thing album.

The song was dedicated to three of the band’s dead friends: record producer Alex Sadkin, artist Andy Warhol and Simon Le Bon’s childhood friend David Miles. Le Bon has since said that “Shame” is the first part of a trilogy of songs written as a tribute to Miles, the other songs being “Ordinary World” and “Out of My Mind”.

The LSD Edit”, a previously promo-only edit of Big Thing album tracks “The Edge Of America” and “Lake Shore Driving” finally had its commercial debut, “LSD” presumably an acronym for “Lake Shore Driving”. The song was renamed “The Krush Brothers LSD Edit” for release on the “Do You Believe In Shame?” single.

“Notorious (Live)”, recorded in Rotterdam, which was previously from the promo-only 12″ EP Duran Goes Dutch ‘Strange Behaviour’ Tour.

I am in shock.

I just saw a video taken by some guy at the concert of the Las Vegas shooting and it looks like it was terrifying. My heart goes out to all those people, the victims and their families.

The Pulse Nightclub massacre was the U.S.’s worst in History, now we have Las Vegas.

I was listening to Duran Duran’s As Seen From a Distance (a bonus track on the limited edition vinyl box set of Paper Gods.

Instrumental track with mimimal lyrics:

“As seen from a distance. The death of a killer.”

Made me think of yesterday’s Las Vegas killings.

After watching Jimmy Kimmel’s emotional opening about the massacre in Vegas, this post is quite fitting. Those bought by these gun corporations should be asked this question.

Always loved Lake Shore Driving…. I Amazed to to find a remix of it, hidden by the LSD acronym.

Will listen to it on a river ride to get away from the TV !

Cheers

Won’t comment on what’s going on as i do not know enough and i’m never sure all is 100% as it seems in the mainstream media but thanks for the post. I didn’t even make the connection until i read others comments. We got no posts of Duran Duran for 2 years according to the site today but now we’ve had 10 in 2017! How wonderful. How about my personal favourite, New Moon on Monday? It seems we’re only now missing that and Careless memories, Union of the snake, A view to a kill (7″), Skin trade and Meet el… Read more »

Scrub Meet El Presidente too it’s called The Presidential Suite on the 12″ and you’ve even posted that one! Could this be the first group with over 5 singles where you’ve posted them all? On a different issue it seems that Tom Petty may be dead but no one seems to know for sure…

A terrible crime on innocent people, the world is getting more and more violent, in all my years I’ve never seen so much tragedy on this planet…..DYBIS:the lyrics are so meaningful, and was one of my favourite tracks from the 1988 Big Thing album, never understood why it didn’t chart so well, fantastic song and a great song choice Paul.

Why do people hate each other so much?

We´re on this wonderful planet for seventy or so years and will
be dead til the end of time. Why the hell can´t we live in peace.
Human behaviour is ridiculous beyond desription. If it weren´t so
sad we should be laughing our asses off. Madness. Pure madness all
around.

If there was a God (and there isn´t…) he/she should realize that
his/her project “human race” is a complete and utter failure.
Shame, that´s right. Shame on all of us.

Condolences to all victims and all affected by this idiotic and senseless act.
My thoughts are with those suffering and in shock.

Sadly I must say that I’m not surprised, that such horrible events occur even more often.
Only in the US in 2016 over 30000 people killed by firearms!!!!!!! Mindless 🙁

Do You Believe In Shame? Sad and touching, yet a wonderful song.

Such SHOCK! Such HORROR! America listen up!!! YOU DO NOT NEED GUNS! A staggering 33,000 are killed each year in the USA from gun crime. THAT IS OFF THE SCALE!!! Why do people hide behind the 2nd and 3rd Amendment and use it to their own means and to justify killing. The Bill of Rights needs to be torn up and rewritten for the modern era. — On another note, this Duran track is one of my all time favorites from my all time favorite Duran album – Big Thing. — The deepest respect goes to all those effected by… Read more »
