BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987
REQUEST
Produced by Harold Faltermeyer “All Systems Go” was the final single from the Donna Summer album of the same name. Edited from its original album version, it became a minor hit in countries such as the United Kingdom, where it reached number fifty-four. In the US the single was only released as a promo 12″ single and failed to chart despite a remix by Bruce Forest.
David Geffen’s response to the commercial disappointment of All Systems Go was to assign Summer to work with the Stock, Aitken and Waterman production team whose dance pop singles were dominating the UK charts and who had had US success with Bananarama and Rick Astley. Ultimately Geffen, after misguiding her career and fatally misjudging her material since 1981, dropped Summer from the roster rather than release the resultant Another Place and Time. The album was picked up for release in the US by Atlantic Records in 1989. Ironically, Geffen Records had misjudged once again as the album would be a bigger success than her previous Geffen Records release All Systems Go. Another Place and Time had provided Summer with one final solid commercial success and her last top ten US single, fourteen years after the release of her first top ten hit “Love to Love You Baby” had hit the charts.

Thanks for the re-up DjPaul. I’m still in a bit of shock. Donna was certainly my first “dance music diva”
I have this 12″ but it’s great to hear it in crystal clear quality!! I look forward to hearing your other Donna Summer downloads too. Enjoying looking at your website. With thanks and Merry Christmas!!
Merry Christmas Ian!
Hey Paul —
Do you have the extended mixes of “Stop, Look, Listen,” “Breakway,” “Work That Magic,” and “When Love Cries?”
Wow, what a treat, Paul! Thank you sooo much for this single (and the description, the hard work, etc) and all the other treasures here! Hugs.
Christmas came early this year, and DJPaulT is our Santa 😀
Thank you so much for this great Donna Summer hit.
Greetings from Winter Wonderland Finland!
Greetings to you Vuoksenniska. Merry Christmas!
And with Donna Summer, Stock Aitken Waterman released one their best albums ever. Shame they never did it again.
I agree Eric it is one of my favorites.
As it goes, a new album was in the works but Donna and PWL had sort of a falling out, so the album never materialized. So Lonnie Gordon was asked to step up to the mike. Imagine the song “Happenin’ All Over Again” and “If I Have To Stand Alone” with Donna on lead vocals. The album would have been another global smash for Donna.
Another 12″ and Winner!
Thanks Paul, and Happy weekend!
Can I ask a question on the 24 bit Flacs? Are we able to burn them as Audio onto CDs? or must it be onto DVDs?
I tried adding some files using dbpoweramp but the files take up more time than it should. So an 80 minute blank CD could only take about half the time for these 24 bit music.
Hi Ric and happy weekend 🙂
Below is a link to a really good website that can easily explain everything to you I hope it helps to answer your question.
http://24bit.turtleside.com/
Thanks for the link Paul!
Can I ask how you listen to your 24 bits files? via your XHD and PC? Or do you burn them?
My PC soundcard supports 24bit audio so I listen to them on my PC. I do save them to an external drive also.
I am making back-up copys in dvd 9 , because in January a have a hd Crash and lost many things!!
Bloody Hell, I can’t believe you came through so quickly. When I begged you for this I thought I might be waiting for 6 months or more. This is the best sounding rip of this hard to find remix I’ve heard to date. I can’t thank you enough Paul, you just made my weekend. I hope you don’t mind but I’m gonna post a link to your blog in the Donna Summer forum so others can come and grab this.
Best Regards
Bob
You’re welcome Bob I don’t mind at all. Have a nice weekend.
Merry Christmas to ME! I’ve been wanting a great copy of this classic track for a LONG time! Thanks so much for this fantastic post! It’s a great start to the weekend!
You are so welcome TimX! Every once in a while I strike gold (lol). Have a great weekend.
I was hoping this would show up here! My 30th birthday is tomorrow, and this is a good early birthday gift! 🙂
Happy Birthday Doug! Oh to be 30 again (lol)
Yay, more Donna! Thanks, Paul!
You are very welcome Ryan.
Thanks for this, Paul. I don’t think I have it on the site. May I post your scans there?
Sure Shawn no problem. I will also add your site to my links section.
We were waiting for this one Paul. Great dance mix. Not available on CD, but now we got a quality OM30 rip!
I own the German pressing which also contains the John Morales 3:50 edit and a different album cut (Bad Reputation). Too bad that Geffen USA didn’t fancy the radio friendly edit to include.
Nice weekend Paul and thanks for this post. Excellent!
You’re welcome Stefano. Yeah Geffen kind of dropped the ball on this one.
thanks , Donna summer is very loved By Brazilian people !!
i have a 12″ version off Breakaway in a Brazilian Complilation of disco / dance music called Super hits!!
You’re welcome drake 🙂
Breakaway is awesome!
The US 12″ for Breakaway with those Paul Simpson remixes is so much better than the UK one…and unfortunately I only have the UK one
Hey Ric do you mean Tony Humphries? I looked on Discogs and cannot locate a US 12″ with Paul Simpson mixes.
ooops, my bad…Tony Humphries it is! It is morning time here and I had just woken up.
I feel the UK PWL mixes are surprisingly not very good and drags the original down, but it was the only one imported here back then.
The US mixes I only discovered much later, but are much harder to find.
I will have to look into getting that one. I thought i had it but after checking it looks like I don’t.
Awesome! Hope you can get a good buy!
it’s funny , in the early 90s , 1992 , Breakaway make great sucess and have strong airplay in the brazilian radios!!
maybe because Donna summer make some shows in Brazil!!
i have a PWL mix , but here is just called 12″ mix!
He (Geffen) was bad move on her career…..thanx for the best music blog out here.
Cheers from Iceland 🙂
MM
Maggi thank you. Please say hello to Iceland for me 🙂
Thanks Paul for another Donna’s song besides great information about this track. Happy weekend.
