Depeche Mode – A Question Of Lust (US 12″ Promo)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986

“A Question of Lust” is Depeche Mode’s sixteenth UK single, released on 14 April 1986.

It is the second Depeche Mode single with Martin Gore on lead vocals, after “Somebody”, and the first to be released in its own right. However, the 12″ single was released as a double A-side with “A Question of Time” in the US, like “Somebody”.

The single hit number 28 in the UK singles charts. In West Germany, the single became a top ten hit.

In the US a “Remix Edit” was done by Robert Margouleff and can only be found on this 12″ promo and Canadian and US 7″ promo singles.

Thanks for this, Paul! I used to cover this with my roommate on guitar back in college. Never knew there was a US promo exclusive version. Also, just saw the “Spirits In The Forest” documentary/concert film last night and it was a great DM gathering here in St. Louis.

I knew about this release but never quite knew that there was such a big difference in the sound. I guess I always assumed it was just a shorter edit!

Thank you so much. As a long-standing DM fan, it is always nice to find a rare gem like this!

Thank you Paul. I love this version. A definite overlooked rarity. Does anyone here actually know for certain if this remix actually appears unedited on the People are People 7″ reissue from 1987: https://www.discogs.com/Depeche-Mode-People-Are-People-A-Question-Of-Lust/release/9064160.

I loved when Martin Gore would do lead vocals on Depeche Mode tracks. I just love his voice and when he sings on ballads, it’s always a highlight for me. Looking forward to hearing this Paul. It’s been ages since I’ve heard the remix and I love the fact that this is an edit. You always give us the versions we “lust” after.
