Dead Or Alive – I’ll Save You All My Kisses (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987

The picture sleeve for the fourth single from Mad, Bad And Dangerous To Kow, “I’ll Save You All My Kisses”, originally featured Pete Burns with a metal “Sex” belt buckle in front of his lips, but Epic Records covered up the word “Sex” with a sticker that said “Kiss” after retailers objected and refused to display the single. The music video was banned by MTV because of its overtly gay content, which depicted Burns in black tights and a leather jacket singing the song from a baseball diamond while a number of men, some of them shirtless, clung to a fence and ogled him. However, despite these setbacks, the band continued to have chart success in Australia, Europe and (particularly) Japan, where they had reached superstar status with nine #1 singles up to 1988. In the US the 12″ single peaked at #48 on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart.

In case you are wondering about the “The Sonia Mezumbda Memorial Mix” title who she was. From what I have read I believe her real name was Sonya Mazunda and she did backing vocals for Frankie Goes To Hollywood in 1982. It’s unclear why the mix was titled this or if she passed away. I assume Pete was friends with her. This is according to the bands The Right Stuff web site forum.

Thanks Paul. For some strange reason I didn’t pick this one up when it was released. I’ve got it now though.

Thanks for this great DOA 12”!!! I remember buying the two 12” singles and being sooooooooooooo excited lol Such a pity that Hooked on Love and I’ll Save You All My Kisses didn’t do well here in UK. I’m sure if they had then “Nude” would have had much more success than it did. Sonia Mezumda is a singer that Pete met in South America when he was there and dedicated the mix to her. This I was told when the International Chrysis Hotline was around – I remember asking them about the origins of the remix names. “Up Ducky… Read more »

Another fab tune that should have fared much better in the U.K. charts when it was released. Many thanks!

Thanks for sharing, Paul! I’ve also got this one in my collection but your rips are tops! = ) If you want to do a whole week of DOA, I wouldn’t complain… Maybe Brand New Lover? Sex Drive by Pete Burns & Glam?

I’d prefer some of the really early stuff that no one ever hears, Number Eleven, I’m Falling, It’s Been Hours Now… etc…

I just realised – is the Wayne Hussey connection the reason why there’s Mission stuff on BTG DJPaulT? 🙂

Looks like Paul can’t keep away from DOA eh?
And we are not complaining!
Thank you!
Only #48? Now that’s a surprise to me.

Thanks a million Paul. I just wish Sony would reissue all of DOA’s albums in remastered form.

Hi DjPaulT

I’m loving your vinyl rips. I’m curious about you saying that you don’t trust the remastered cd’s and I wondered about your reasons. I’m not being critical of you… when I first bought “Evolution” I thought the volume levels for the collection were so damn loud that it was almost distorting. Anyway I’d love to hear your take on remasters.
BTW, I did leave a message at the SSQ post and thought you might have missed it.
Also, thanks for your blog… it brightens my day getting your updates through my e-mail.
Ray 🙂

I Wanna Be A Toy doesn’t sound any different from the album version, even though the sleeve states it’s a Special Version. Incidentally, I can remember buying the Aussie 12″, along with all the rest, at the time. And I do remember feeling a bit red when buying turn around and cound 2 ten because of the sleeve! I was a smalltown boy! ;D

Thanks for this.

Curious that they put a track from the previous album on the b-side, no??

thank you so much for this. i remember watching their Rip It Up concert (which was a glorious lip-sync fest) and during this number, Pete mooned the japanese audience for an extended period of time. with him, more was more.
