BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986
“Brand New Lover” is the name of a song recorded by the British new wave band Dead or Alive. It was the first single to be released from the band’s third album, Mad, Bad, and Dangerous to Know. It achieved international success when released as a single in 1986. The song proved to be more successful in the U.S. and in Japan than in the band’s native U.K.; it peaked at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, whereas the song reached #31 on the UK Singles Chart. In addition, “Brand New Lover” spent two weeks atop the American dance chart in December 1986.

Hi Paul,
How are you? It sounds faster or am I just hearing things? I have the edit that came from “That’s the Way I Like It: The Best of Dead or Alive” but the synth at the start is different or slower. Thanks!
I wonder if you have the My Heart Goes Bang limited edition 7″ double pack? Since the live B-sides didn’t make it to the box set (the Youthquake concert is from a different night and they sound totally different) this post has me thinking how nice it would be to hear them with your magic touches. I know you posted Hooked On Love some time ago with them, but one can never have too much Dead Or Alive! (and that UK 7″ mix of MHGB is fantastic)
David, now you have me curious about that UK 7″ Mix of “My Heart Goes Bang”. I wonder if I have heard it before
That My Heart Goes Bang 7″ mix (from the 2-record set) is the version from the video, very different from the version found on the US 7″ single. (and that US 7″ mix is another vinyl only version that I hope will make its way to your site soon)
Classic. Now, i’m wondering, what happened to our festive chritmas elf Paul. I sincerely looked forward to your annual christmas celebration on BTG.
The festive Christmas elf is still here just not doing Christmas overkill this year. I do have a couple of holiday records to post 🙂 Merry Christmas!
Thanks Paul. I always liked the 7” mix the best.
You’re welcome Omar 🙂
Paul! This is a dream come true! Not just for me but for all Dead Or Alive fans. I came on here this morning to have a look at what you posted and was so excited to see this. One reason is because I really felt that the box set that they released for Dead Or Alive recently, aside from all the errors that they originally had even when it was fixed I really wasn’t very happy with the sound quality of the remasters. Some of them sounded okay, it was kind of a mixed matched kind of collection where… Read more »
I was very disappointed with the box set as well Memoryboy. It was really a mixed bag of bad vinyl rips and dodgy remastering. The packaging was also a let down my box is warping and I have to keep it flat under something heavy. Always loved a nice edit and this one is really great. I am so happy to hear you made Santa’s nice list. Merry Christmas! 🙂
Such a disappointment! I was looking so forward to receiving this box and it was crap altogether. I sent an email complaining about technical problems and received ten or so of the 19 cds as replacements – simply packed in white cd sleeves. No comment, no apology, just the package with a bunch of cds. I sold the original box at a good price and kept the replacements. Still, the poor quality of it all really gets me down.
My two Pete Burns favourites on one disc. “In Too Deep” was the first Dead Or Alive 12inch I bought and I still love it. “Brand New Lover” is such a great, dynamic song that can only be played LOUD.
Mr Burns, you are dearly missed.
Yes play it really loud!! 🙂
Thank you Paul for always keeping the memory of Pete Burns alive. Your commitment to their catalog is awesome and most sincere. I miss Mr. Burns so much. He’s a man and artist I can’t get out of my head. I love him and his music. I’m so pleased that you lavish your expert skills on their records.
Jeff
You’re welcome Jeff 🙂
