Again I’m late to the party, but just wanted to say thank you! I remember this song in Beverly Hills, 90210 prom night! Back when the show was cutting edge before it jumped the shark, lol. Thanks for all these fantastic mixes in terrific fidelity from the cassingle!
Curiously, the best mix is the elusive “Hot mix 4:01″ on side 2 of the 7” and digipack promo single that was played on West Coast radio back in the day, and is not on most of the 12″s and the deluxe edition either. Worth checking out!
This is awesome, thanks! I never paid attention to Cathy Dennis, except in the early/mid-90s my ex loved her; she was always listening to this track and Too Many Walls, so it reminds me of my early 20s. (Similarly, she loved Kim Wilde’s “You Came”, another one forever stuck in my head now.) It’s funny how years later your appreciation of music changes and grows. And your tape deck is fantastic – a Nakamichi BX-300! I need a deck of that quality – I wrote/recorded a lot of music to cassette in the 80s/90s, and don’t have a deck to… Read more »
The cassette transfers are very cool! More mixes to listen to! Thanks Paul!
Okay first I have to admit I was never a fan of cassettes so when you posted this I wasn’t expecting to be that impressed. Your deck is a classic and home recordings on top quality blanks would give you results way above what you would expect from what was a flawed format…but even on such a good deck, this being a mass produced bulk copied retail tape, I wasn’t expecting it to shine. But this sounds great. As another said bass sound is deep and heavy and in a good way. You must have tweaked it at least a… Read more »
No tweaks at all Ian it is just a flat transfer. I removed the occasional click/pop and added fade-ins and outs. I also added some gain to make it a bit louder but nothing else. The Nakamichi deck did most of the work.
That’s music to my ears Paul. As are all the recent cassette transfers!
Jaw dropped playing this – low frequency bass levels practically vibrating me out of my chair! Heavy handed on the EQ either from factory or on the transfer BUT I LOVE IT! Thank you,
Sonus Faber speakers and Primare amp set to volume 45 – high lol.
You’re welcome, Jeremy. I’m glad you like it! I think it was mastered bass-heavy. 🙂
Cool. I’ve recently gone back and have transferred some of my old cassettes, a lot of stuff native to cassette and not readily available elsewhere, nice thing is if the cassette is still good, no scratches, but you still get that analogue sound. I have the 12″ for this but it has some sibilant parts. There was also the “hot mix” which was on the US promo CD and used on some of the record club versions of the album. It’s really amazing how many hits Cathy Dennis has written for other people since she stopped releasing albums. Anyway, thanks… Read more »
You’re welcome, Joey. Cathy was really pretty big during this period I love both her debut and second album. Cassettes are fun and you are right still analogue. Cassettes are getting to be pretty hard to find especially singles.
Paul, this is fantastic. I love that it is sourced from a cassette. I love this song, and the Touch This mix is not an easy one to track down. Really excellent post. Thank you!!
You’re welcome MusicMan3 🙂
thanks a lot for the memories you bring with all this posts and thanks for sharing. 🙂
You’re welcome, Marc 🙂
I had this US Cassette Maxi-Single, but mislaid it some years ago. Although i still have the CD Single and 12”. These versions from Shep are some of my favourite mixes.
I also liked his mixes for Just Another Dream by Cathy Dennis.
Thanks Paul 🙂
You’re welcome, Marco 🙂
Thank you so much for posting this!! I remember having the cassette single and have been looking for these versions for SO LONG. For some reason, the cd single versions were never the mixes I remember. I think it was due to the various versions? But, this was a song I listened to many times. Thank you for posting and for bringing back memories. That was needed today!!
You’re welcome, GAC 🙂
Thank you, Paul, for this fabulous cassette maxi-single from Cathy Dennis. I love this song so much. Can’t wait to hear these mixes.
Jeff
You’re welcome, Jeff 🙂
Interesting that you used the cassette as a source. I just read an article yesterday that people are going crazy over collecting cassettes now … lol … Apparently, some of them (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc.) in their first editions and unsealed go for over $2,500 on eBay … with an average price of these collector’s items fetching $400.
Anyways, killer song. Always packed my dancefloor. Great share as usual!
Wow! I only have a few of my cassette singles left I wish I would have kept them all.
Thanks for a great tune! It was not the typical music I listened to but back in the day I bought the Move To This album just for this song and ended up enjoying the whole thing. In recent years I purchased the “Deluxe Edition” which has a ton of b-sides and remixes.

Cheers!
Loved the album and listened to it constantly it was very refreshing and so catchy. Every track was well produced. Too bad the deluxe CD did not carry over all of the mixes.
