Kim Wilde – You Keep Me Hangin’ On (US 12″)

Burning The Ground Exclusive 1987

NEW 203 Transfer
NEW Meticulous Audio Restoration

Originally posted December 15, 2016

During the week of June 6, 1987, Kim Wilde ruled the dance floor in clubs across America with her chart-topping cover of the Supremes classic “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” which has since become a gay club classic and should be on every Pride playlist.

“You Keep Me Hangin’ On” is a song written and composed by Holland–Dozier–Holland. It was first recorded in 1966 by the American Motown girl group the Supremes.

“You Keep Me Hangin’ On” was covered in an updated version by English singer Kim Wilde in 1986. Wilde’s version was a total re-working of the original, completely transforming the Supremes’ Motown Sound into a hi-NRG song.

It was released as the second single from Wilde’s fifth studio album, Another Step (although “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” was the LP’s first worldwide single, as the first single had been released only in selected countries). The song reached number two in Wilde’s native United Kingdom and number one in Australia. It also became Wilde’s second and last top-40 entry in the United States following “Kids in America” (1981), as well as her most successful song in that country to date, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for one week in June 1987. It later ranked as the 34th best-selling song of 1987 on Billboard’s Hot 100 year-end chart that year. “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” was certified silver by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for UK sales in excess of 250,000 copies.

“The Touch” is the second single from the 1984 Kim Wilde album Teases & Dares, released at the end of the year it did not match the success of her previous single.

It was released as both a 7″ and a 12″ single. The 7″ had a remix of the album version on side A, and a track was written by Wilde herself on side B entitled “Shangri-La”, also from the Teases and Dares album. Both tracks were extended for the 12″ release. It also featured in the soundtrack of the American movie Secret Admirer.

Kim Wilde – Kids In America (Germany 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1981

NEW 2020 Transfer!
Meticulously Remastered!

Originally posted May 19, 2015

“Kids in America” is a song recorded by British singer Kim Wilde. It was released in the United Kingdom as her debut single in January 1981, and in the United States in spring 1982. It has been covered by many artists from different genres.

The song was recorded in 1980 after RAK Records boss Mickie Most heard Wilde singing on a backing track for her brother Ricky Wilde. He liked her voice and image and expressed an interest to work with her. Ricky Wilde, together with his father Marty Wilde (a 1950s/1960s rock and roll star) wrote the song “Kids in America” for Wilde to record. Once the demo was sent, Most remixed the track himself and released it on RAK as Wilde’s first single in January 1981.

The song peaked at number 2 in the United Kingdom. The following year it became a Billboard Hot 100 Top 30 hit in the United States and ranked as the 91st most successful song of 1982 on the Hot 100 year-end chart. In the summer of 1981, the track appeared on Wilde’s self-titled debut album.

The new wave song was the start of Wilde’s career. Her father and brother continued to write songs for her (with the latter also given production credits), although in later years Wilde herself and her brother would usually be credited with the songwriting.

In an interview, Kim laughed that when she recorded the song she had never even been to America.

The song was released as a 7″ in the UK and United States. Germany is the only country that a 12″ was issued.

Kim Wilde – Chequered Love (Germany 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1981

“Chequered Love” is the second single by British singer Kim Wilde. The song was released in the spring of 1981 to follow Wilde’s successful debut “Kids in America”. As with that single, writing credits were given to Wilde’s father and brother Marty and Ricky Wilde, with the latter also being given production credits. The 12″ version is no longer in length than the 7″, however, better sound quality is achieved by the grooves not being as compressed – a common practice for “marketing” during the 1980s. The song later appeared on Wilde’s self-titled debut album.

“Chequered Love” became another hit for Wilde, reaching the number four on the UK Singles Chart, number one in South Africa (succeeding “Kids in America”), and peaking inside the top 10 all around the world except North America. It has sold 245,000 copies in France, was certified gold in the UK, and has sold over a million copies worldwide.
