Carnes wrote the song with her husband, Dave Ellingson, along with the team of Brian Fairweather and Martin Page. The song was produced and mixed by influential guitarist, songwriter, and producer Nile Rodgers.

“Invitation To Dance” peaked at #68 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and #32 on the Adult Contemporary chart.
