One of the greatest records ever made, and with a video to match. CV were a local band for me growing up, and they were way ahead of their time. Someone mentions above that the single version combines Sensoria and Do Right from the album. That’s correct, and it was Robin Scott – a.k.a. M of Pop Muzik fame – who suggested the idea to them. They had some surprisingly danceable tunes too. Check out Nag Nag Nag, Yashar, Just Fascination, The Crackdown and a host of others.
yes Jonathan I did mention it was the two tracks combined…and it was the track that woke me up to Cabaret Voltaire. Lucky you to be able to call them ‘a local band for me’. All we have is P J Harvey and The Pineapple Thief…unless anyone remembers The Chesterfields? Or Basinger?
One of the Cab’s best songs ever!!
Thanks so much for posting this. I remember seeing their music video for the first time. I guess Depeche saw it too hehe 😉
Thanks Paul!!
Brilliant! This is the track that got me hooked on Cabaret Voltaire at the time. And this is the best mix of the best track…actually two songs in one…if you dig out the Micro-phonies album you will find it is bookended by the two originally separate tracks; ‘Do Right’ and ‘Sensoria’. A great album so the whole thing deserves a listen people!
I’m loving all the responses to Cabaret Voltaire, Paul. Thank you immensely for this vinyl rip. I’m so pleased you’re getting into the band and all. They’re definitely one of my favorite bands!! Definitely check out the compilations and their great album, “Code.” Nervous beats and sinister whispers are in full effect!!
Jeff
Paul, I don’t usually comment here but I will on this post. Cabaret Voltaire is definitely an overlooked seminal band that deserve more recognition. I agree with all of what Raj (negative 1) said. If you like Sensoria – and who doesn’t! – even my 9 year old daughter has heard it and remembers it fondly – then you should explore their 83-85 period the most. Some classics and remixes available from John Potoker, John Luongo and others. I enjoyed the albums Negative1 mentioned as well, especially the Code/Groovy albums. I know you are a remix connoisseur (like us all!)… Read more »
Jon, maybe you know if there is more to this, but on the UK CD of micro-phonies, there are 2 bonus 12 inch mixes, sensoria and blue heat. i’m pretty sure it was in name only. but ‘blue heat’ was never released on vinyl as a remix, as far as i can find, but it is called the 12 inch mix. maybe it was planned and then pulled as the b-side. according to brainwashed that was the case: http://www.brainwashed.com/common/htdocs/discog/cv2.php?site=cv “Blue Heat (12″ Mix)” is a CD-exclusive track. There is no evidence of the Blue Heat 12″ ever having been released,… Read more »
Raj, Good question. I wasn’t following the Cabs in the 80s so I didn’t pick up their b-sides until recently. I think Blue Heat was only a bonus track on the Microphonies CD. Never saw it on anything else and I was surprised that it wasn’t on the #8385 boxset. but Richard Kirk missed a few things and included them as downloads… In any case, definitely my favorite Cans album and I hope they remaster Blue Heat at some point. By the way, I really liked your ABC website with the mixes and those compilations you made look really interesting.… Read more »
Another one I just love. Thanks so much for posting!
Thanks Paul.
You’re welcome Omar 🙂
congratulations paul on posting one of my favorite cabaret voltaire singles. i have been into them since the early 80’s. they have been punk, new wave, industrial, techno, house, and mostly experimental throughout the years. there’s a lot of styles to cover, and a ton of remixes, and singles to go through —————— check out: ———————————- industrial ————— just fascination i want you here to go house/techno ——————– don’t argue hypnotised keep on albums ————– micro-phonies the covenant the sword and the arm of the lord drinking gasoline code groovy laidback and nasty (with remix EP) technology western reworks 1992… Read more »
Thanks for all the info -1. I love seeking out new items so it’ll be a fun journey 🙂
I love your enthusiasm for so many of the bands I love negative1! Your knowledge is like an encyclopedia!! I enjoy your responses on New Wave Outpost as well!! Have a great day!!
Jeff
YES!! Cabaret Voltaire! Have you heard “Don’t Argue?” It was another great one! Thanks Paul!
You’re welcome Cindy 🙂
?? I have the dub one, very rare…
What dub version?
There is only the 7 inch, the album and 12 inch mix.
They redid it in 1992 for reworks, and theres a razormaid mix, thats it.
There is no ‘dub’ mix.

Totally bizarre that you should post this. I’ve just got into this classic recently. As in early this month! I got into it by mistake as i found on my hard drive (whilst trying to clear some space), the excellent ‘The Sound of the crowd’ (VA compilation album). Visage’s ‘Fade to grey’ which you posted just last week in also on that compilation. You haven’t been listening to the said compilation recently have you?
It’s just that I have telepathy and can read minds Neil lol 🙂
Now THAT´s what I call a treat, Paul. I´ve always been under the impression I was the only person on Earth knowing and loving Cabaret and collecting their records 🙂 I have a white label promo with plain black die-cut sleeve of this great record. Love the production of Mr Potoker as well. Your rip sounds approximately 5 million times better (rough guess 🙂 ) than my worn record which I bought in used condition a hundred years ago.
Great find, hats off!
Thanks so much Song_and_Dance. I hope to be adding more of this band in future posts 🙂
Paul: I do not want to bother you but I have a special requirement, pleaseeeeeeeee if you have “Cabaret Voltaire – Crackdown / Just Fascination” please publish it please…please…please…please…please…
No bother at all Rafa. I do not have that 12″ at the moment but just ordered a copy this afternoon. As soon as I have it in my hands I will post it 🙂
wooooww I am shocked, one of my favorite songs by CABARET VOLTAIRE, this song on a personal level marked a before and afterwards musically speaking, Cabaret Voltaire will always have an impeccable sound, it will always be underground, Cabaret Voltaire will always be framed in a special and unparalleled sound, a million thanks Paul, excellent publication.
A very special gift from you (and from Cabaret Voltaire of course).
Regards.
Rafa
You’re very welcome Rafa 🙂
I’m all flabbergasted Paul!! Lately, I’ve been getting back into Cabaret Voltaire, so this indeed is quite the gift and certainly, a welcome surprise!! I first got into The Cabs via their single, “Yashar” because it was remixed by John Robie. My love affair grew from there. Getting into Electro and then Industrial seemed to be my musical path for awhile. I’m like you Paul, I love so many different things, however, I SWOON over the different and experimental. Cabaret Voltaire are pioneers and deserve so much credit for a lot of music that followed. Marc Almond is a fan… Read more »
I don’t know a lot about this band and have only recently been digging into their catalog. I only own maybe three of their 12″ singles so I will be adding more to my collection. 🙂
This is really fantastic !
Thanks a lot !
The Cabs were amazing.
You’re welcome, Alberto 🙂
