Burning The Ground Exclusive 1982
“I’m So Hot For You” was the debut 12″ single release by an American record producer, indie record label owner, songwriter, and musician. Bobby Orlando (aka Bobby’O). He is regarded as an innovator in the Hi-NRG genre for developing his signature sound, using a “powerful beat” and “new wave-style” vocals with the help of a “heavy [synthesizer] bass”, synthesizers, piano, guitars, cowbells his style was referred to as Boystown or just simply gay disco.
“I’m So Hot For You” peaked at #17 on the U.S. Billboard Dance Chart the track was remixed by FunHouse DJ supreme – John “Jellybean” Benitez.
Despite being known as a hyper-macho, incredibly cocky, rampantly homophobic ex-boxer who made gay disco. Bobby Orlando made his strange mark on LGBTQ+ music even producing hits for gay icons Divine, and Pet Shop Boys. Bobby Orlando became a legend in the ’80s through many disco and Hi-NRG records released on his independent label, O Records.
“I’m So Hot For You” is currently used in the Gay nightclub scene in the Netflix original series “Eric”.
A music video was not filmed for this release.

Oh Man! I was just listening to this song on youtube… Have you heard the new Pet Shop Boys single? One of the “New” songs included “I’ve Got Plans For You” they wrote in 1982 and sent to Bobby O to get a recording contract, and they never recorded it properly until now, is included and it reminded me of this song. So cool… I’m not sure if I’ve heard the jellybean mix before…. This song also got Re-purposed by Junior Jack & Robert Smith to create “DaHype” back in 2003. Thanks Paul, have a great weekend!!!
Hi, Joey
I have listened to the new PSB album but must have glossed over that track I was listening to it while doing things around the house. I will be sure to re-listen and pay more attention this time. Have an awesome weekend 🙂
It’s on the ep released this week “A New Bohemia”
No wonder I missed it. Thanks, Joey 🙂
Hello Paul, I didn’t remember this song, until you shared it, now I can say that it was one of the songs I danced to in those years. Thank you
You’re welcome 🙂
Listening to it now, I’m amazed by the synths’ similarity to Human League’s “Don’t You Want Me” It always reminded me of that song…
Bobby Orlando created some of the most original dance music of the 1980s, but he seemingly was just as happy to shamelessly plagiarize current dance hits, releasing a slew of blatant soundalikes and proudly referring to himself as “the McDonald’s of the dance record industry”.
Brilliant, Paul!! I’ve noticed this right away when listening to productions of Bobby Orlando since the beginning. He really had a knack for “echoing” other bands’ production. I mean, look how his Divine records sounded similarly to Giorgio Moroder’s synth productions. “Just A Gigolo” really copied The B-52’s “Private Idaho” and, a lost favorite of mine, “Eat ‘Em Up” by The Beat Box Boys, sounded very Art Of Noise. I don’t think he’d get away with things like that today. Look at the “Blurred Lines” debacle. It’s so crazy. Thanks, Paul, for all the information about Mr. Orlando. The stuff… Read more »
Great 12″! It was played EVERYWHERE, even many years after it’s release. Thanks for the perfect restoration 🙂
Very happy you continue “Disco Friday” 🙂 🙂 🙂
Thank you 🙂
As a huge fan of Bobby Orlando, I can’t thank you enough for today’s post! Mr. Orlando always made incredibly infectious dance music that always caught my attention! This is great to have, Paul!!
