LOL. Yeah I reckoned it could be both.

Keep up the good work!

I absolutely love your “Renewed Vows” title for this re-rip Paul. Extremely clever and quite timely as Mr. Idol is going to release his “Revitalized Remixes” at the end of the month. I’m a bit concerned with these new mixes because, sometimes, well, in a lot of cases, so many mixes don’t work and are way-off-the-mark. They give up the integrity of the original song. Gosh, the days of the superior 12-inch remix seem to be gone. I so wish they would call up original remixers from back in the day to apply their magic to Idol’s classic catalog. What… Read more »

Thanks for the tip on the remix cd, Jeff! I just ordered it. I’m hoping others who like Idol will purchase this cd to support the remixing community (as well as get some cool mixes!). I can only preview Dancing With Myself but hopefully all the mixes sound just as good!

You’re most welcome Fred. Hey, don’t forget the digital version of the album has bonus mixes on it. Too bad they’re not included on the CD version. I’m open minded about some of them, but still cautious about the execution.

And I’m just curious, have you checked out the Omar Santana remix of the dub on Black Britain’s “Funky Nassau”? Paul did a marvelous rip of this record and I want your opinion.

Hi Jeff! 1)Yes, I saw that there are bonus mixes as digital files but I just don’t trust any digital files unless they are WAV. I am a bit freak. 2)I have never heard of that Black Britain song and just checked out his dub…it’s exactly how he remixes…great cuts/splices, samples, editing is superb, and many of the samples use pitch/semitone adjustment to make them “play”. His work is very similar to Latin Rascals and I give both remix teams huge huge props for creating what they did in the mid 80s before any software existed. Even with software for… Read more »

I forgot to mention that Stevie B had some great remixes that were similar to Latin Rascals and Omar…for example https://www.discogs.com/Stevie-B-Girl-I-Am-Searching-For-You/release/1552876

Glenn only remixes Stevie and 1 or 2 other artists. I don’t know why.

FRED!!!! I’m over-the-moon that you finally got to hear the Black Britain dub!! Omar Santana is out-of-control with his mad skills in editing prowess. I agree, what him and the Latin Rascals did with a razor blade back in the day is certainly phenomenal. I really miss this type of radical editing. I love Omar’s X-Mix contributions, especially the ones he did for Expose, Shannon and Alisha. They are textbook fantastic!! And Stevie B had some wonderful dubs and flip-sides. You have excellent taste Fred!! And I too pray that Paul will someday get to the Sweet Sensation records. They… Read more »

What I CANNOT STAND about remixes over the past 4+ years is their audacity to call a 3:33 song a “remix”. I am so disappointed and steaming mad that 90% of mainstream songs’ remixes are under 4:10…seriously. I don’t need 11 minute anthems but if it’s not at least 5:30 it is by no means a remix…at least a club version with a solid intro, outro, and a few breaks.

As long as it’s a different mix ‘somehow’ they can call them anything they like unfortunately.
There’s also countless Extended Remixes or Long Versions that are just the LP Versions.
And conversely the opposite is also true, i.e. they don’t look any different, the time given may be wrong but when U play the thing = it’s a Unique Mix.
There’s an infamous ‘Extended 12” Remix” by the band Rainbow that’s the shortest mix of all.
There’s no standard ‘anything’ in The Remix World is the only fact.

i’m a fan of the older billy idol remixes,
so this is great paul, thanks for putting it up.

that said, i’ll be getting the digital version,
because i like a lot of the 90’s mixers too.

the one thing i appreciate is that they are remixing
songs that never had remixes before.

hopefully those will turn out well.

we’ll see.

Thanks, Paul! I had never heard Part 2 as a separate track before. I don’t think it was ever released on cd (people can correct me please if you have a discogs link). Nice to have!

Also, the reverse/scratch intro of Part 2 is actually his hit Hot In The City. You have to slow it wayyyyyyyy down AND play it in reverse. Madonna did something similar on her Rescue Me (Houseboat Vocal) remix.

If the beginning of that Madonna mix is slowed down and reversed, is it from another song?

It is from another Madonna song (I think) but I do not know what the song is. I can only hear her say “king of the night…can you tell me…what Christ” or “king of the night…can you tell me…what Christmas”. I’ve never heard those lyrics in any of her songs. Google finds nothing on this topic. I’m sure there’s an answer somewhere. 🙂 Whatever it is it’s pre-1990.
