DISCO FRIDAY
Re-Rip Newly Remastered!

Originally I posted this one on April 14, 2010. But for those who may have missed it or if you are a new reader just discovering BTG. I decided to give this one a new rip with my newer Ortofon Super 30 stylus. This 12″ is also being posted in 24 bit flac for the very first time!

“The Woman in You” is one of five songs the Bee Gees contributed to the film, Staying Alive, the sequel to Saturday Night Fever. Director Sylvester Stallone used the Bee Gees songs in the movie more as background music rather than the prominent way Saturday Night Fever had featured them. The single received more airplay than the Bee Gees previous two singles, though not enough to reach a Top 10 position.

The video, directed by Brian Grant and conceptualised by Keith Williams, which did air in rotation on MTV, featured each brother in a working class job where they all come in contact with the same woman who lures them away.

In interviews following the release of the film, the brothers expressed their displeasure at the way their songs were edited and revealed that their hearts were not in the music. By 1983, the Bee Gees were focusing their talents on solo projects and productions of other artists, so it is not surprising that they were not all enthusiastic about the Staying Alive movie.

The Woman In You peaked at #24 in the US and #81 in the Uk. The 12″ single featued the extended version of the song and a nine minute megamix called Saturday Night Mix, whichcontained songs from Saturady Night Fever.

Oh, I don’t know, I’ve heard medley mixes that were much worse than this. 🙂 (Go find the 45RPM single version of Chicago’s “Make Me Smile / More Than Ever” sometime; the edits are so jarring it’s like somebody just hacked their way through it with a chain saw.) I do often find myself listening to certain mixes from the 80s and thinking “geez, I could remix it more smoothly than that, and I’m just an amateur with a desktop PC and a ten-year-old copy of Cool Edit Pro”… and then I realize that even that ten-year-old software represents a… Read more »

Great choice of a re-rip. Thanks Paul!
It’s really tough to live up to the Saturday Night Live legacy. While no songs match the brilliance of the original soundtrack, I do enjoy this and Far From Over, and love the ballads Someone Belonging To Someone and I Never Gonna Give You Up.

Very great choice for a re-rip, Paul! Hope the other BeeGees 12 inches get the same treatment soon. They are dead on this blog for too long now! The BeeGees catalogue should always be available, period. Love their music.

Yeah, they really need a new rip with your new equipment.
