BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1983
“Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye” is a song written and recorded by Paul Leka, Gary DeCarlo and Dale Frashuer, attributed to a then-fictitious band they named “Steam”.
In February 1983, UK girl group Bananarama released the song as the fifth single off their album Deep Sea Skiving. This version became a top ten hit in the United Kingdom (#5), but only a minor hit in the US (Billboard #101) later that year. In a sketch on the early 1980s comedy show Three of a Kind, Tracey Ullman spoofed Bananarama singing “Na Na Hey Hey” (as well as “Shy Boy”), with the words “We are nanas”.

Excellent quality! Thank you!!!!
The cover version by german singer Fancy is very popular in Brazil!
thanks for post!
Awesome blog! Also loving the Bananarama streak…
Keep up the great work!
thanks for another great one, had the “deep sea skiving” cassette back in the day, i believe it finally snapped from overuse! so great to find these super-rare 12″ers!
You’re welcome Feanor. I hear ya I played many of cassettes until they snapped too (lol)
I love the Bananarama streak! Thanks Paul!
You’re welcome MusicMan3!
All this time me looking for the ultimate sounding Bananarama’s… and you were keeping them just for yourself ; ) … Well thank you for sharing them as always. In music. Ricki
By the way, I hope that the Bananarama streak goes on for a little (or a long) while.
You’re welcome Ricki it’s nice to see you here again 🙂
Nothing against this remake, but it stays true to the old adage “If you want a hit, release a cover version!”
After the unfortunate hiccup that is Cheers Then, the ‘nana’s wisely got back on track with a more familiar tune and more cheery faces. And it doesn’t hurt that the title has some Na-Na’s in it too.
This MEGA ‘nana spotlight here can go on and on, and seems like no one is complaining!
Thank you Paul!
Happy Weekend!
You’re welcome Ric. I am only going to post one or more in this Nanas series i will post more later on in time. Have a great weekend.
Only one more left? That’s Cruel as Summer! LOL!
But I guess all good things must come to an end…
Plus, I’m glad there’s a second installment planned somewhere down the Burning The Ground road.
I’m sure Robert De Niro will be Waiting…so will many of us here!
Could be Aie A Mwana!
Was the original single version the same recording as on Deep Sea Skiving, does anyone know?
Thanks for this Bananarama Overdose!!
this 12″ is one of my favorites Bananarama Tracks!!
One question:
There is a more longer version of this music??
Drake not that I know of.
p.s. TimX: I LOVE the “It’s Bananarama-arama up in here!”
🙂
Thanks again, Paul! Bananarama is nothing if not cheerful!
You’re welcome Jbirdie!
I actually prefer the b-side here. Thanks again, Paul.
You’re welcome Steve 🙂
Not the biggest fan of Bananarama I have to say. But a Dennis Bovell mix? I have to give that a listen! Thanks very much for that.
You’re welcome it’s a pretty good mix 🙂
Oh my goodness! It’s Bananarama-arama up in here! And I’M LOVIN’ IT!
So happy to see all these great posts featuring the greatest girl group of all time!
Keep up the fantastic work (as you always do)! And many many thanks!
Hey you’re welcome TimX. So nice to see all of these new commenters Lovin’ it!
Keep the streak coming!
I’m not a new commenter – last time was the Nana’s “Hot Line To Heaven” – but I’m gonna make sure I show my love more often!
You do such an incredible job – and hit songs I never thought I’d see – so I’m gonna make sure you know how much I appreciate you and hopefully the other visitors will show their love too!
After all, you always show YOUR appreciation!
Love you much and love your hard work!
Have an incredible weekend!
XOXO
Thank you again TiX I really appreciate your comment and I do look forward to seeing you more ofte. Cheers!
You’ve totally cheered up one of my worst weeks ever.
Jermajesty I am glad I was able to help 🙂 Have a great weekend!
Thanks so much again for more Bananarama. I LOVE this song and another superb rip
Thank you!
Loving the Banana streak, Paul! And I actually wouldn’t mind another week of it, though I know you don’t like to linger on one act too long. But if I had any say in the next eventual run, I’d vote for more Dead Or Alive, Eurythmics…or Prince, who’s a little underrepresented here. Actually, for a one-off, do you have Sting’s “Love Is The Seventh Wave”? The single version of that is elusive.
Thank you, in any case! The ongoing surprise is half the fun.
I am loving the Bananarama run too and hope it goes on and on , ha ha but thats selfish of me, just selfish ha ha
Jemboy it’s not selfish at all 🙂
jamieh you’re welcome. I believe I do have that Sting 12″ here because it has a poster in with it and I do have more DOA, urythmics etc coming soon.
Well; they’re smiling now….
Lol 🙂
