Alison Moyet – Is This Love? (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986

A. Front

“Is This Love?” is a song performed by the English singer Alison Moyet and co-written by Moyet and Jean Guiot. The name Jean Guiot is a false one given by Dave Stewart of Eurythmics who actually co-wrote and produced the song. The song was released as the first single from the yet-to-be released album Raindancing in November 1986. The single peaked at #3 on the UK singles chart, #4 Ireland, #3 Norway and #2 South Africa. In the US the single failed to chart.

The music video was filmed at Carlyon Bay near St Austell in Cornwall at the now closed down Cornwall Coliseum entertainment venue, and along the Carlyon Bay beach.

Somehow I missed this one – this is one of the very best songs and extended versions of the 80s in my opinion. Wonderful, thanks!

Sorry, Bon jovi fans…but give me Alison Moyet any day over hair metal! When Alison Moyet returned with this single in Nov 86, it wasn’t a fast climber due to that Christmas rush. I was quite worried given her previous single The Ole Devil Called Love peaked at #2. Thankfully, it battled past those Christmas singles come January to leap into the Top 3. BTW, there is another Alison Moyet-Eurythmics connection. Alison and Annie both sang backup for Bob Geldof’s This Is The World Calling, and you can hear their perfect harmony especially on the 12” Version. I sure wished… Read more »

Love this 12″ mix as well as the extended version of “Blow Wind Blow” (which is up there for me with “Winter Kills”as great Alison Moyet ballad moments.) I was lucky enough to see her in a play (in London) called Smaller with Dawn French a few years ago. The play itself was no great shakes, but Alison did two solo acoustic songs that were spine-tingling. I think the songs are on her LP called The Turn.

I get weak in the presence of all this Alison Moyet…
Tomorrow hopefully we get even more weaker in the presence of all that beauty (hope you have that 12 inch too).

Thanks for this excellent series Paul.

A very commercial track indeed (in the UK), doesn’t quite have the class of the ALF singles (or remixes!), still a pleasant mix.

Thanks as always for the rip Paul.. 🙂

Most excellent! And I never knew Dave Stewart was involved with this – fascinating! Thanks Paul, fingers crossed the Moyet series continues. You don’t happen to have the European only 12″ of For You Only – it had a remix I’d love to hear…
