Glenn Medeiros – Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986

Happy Valentine’s Day!

“Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love for You” is a song written by composers Michael Masser and Gerry Goffin. It was originally recorded in 1984 by American singer and guitarist George Benson. Two years later, the song was re-recorded by Hawaiian singer Glenn Medeiros, whose 1987 cover eventually topped the charts in several countries. The single reached number 12 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and topped the charts in Canada and the United Kingdom. It also topped the charts in a further four countries in Europe. Medeiros also recorded the song in Spanish under the title “Nada cambiará mi Amor por ti”.

Medeiros originally released the song on a small independent label at the age of 16, after winning a local radio talent contest in Hawaii. A visiting radio executive from KZZP in Phoenix, Arizona heard the song and took the record back to Phoenix, where it became a national hit through word of mouth.

The song was featured in a late 1987 episode of the US daytime soap opera Days Of Our Lives as well as 1988 episodes of As The World Turns, The Bold And The Beautiful, and General Hospital.

In 2009, the song was used in France in a television advert for Spontex sponges. The song was additionally used in a commercial for Thinkbox in the UK in 2015. During the same year, the song was used in an episode of British soap opera Coronation Street, where characters Beth Tinker and Kirk Sutherland got married.

Thereza Bazar – Too Much In Love (Europe 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

“Too Much In Love” is a 1985 single by Canadian-born British singer Thereza Bazar, best known as one half of the pop duo, Dollar.

Bazar released one solo album in 1985 called The Big Kiss, which she co-wrote. It was produced by Arif Mardin. The album reportedly cost half a million pounds to produce and generated media attention, but according to Bazar, the album’s circulation was poor due to a mix-up at the record company, with the album unavailable at the time of its advertised release. The album and its singles failed to chart.

Sandii & The Sunsetz – Dreams Of Immigrants (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1982

For Immigrants and DREAMERS

-DjPaulT Recommended 12″

” Dreams Of Immigrants” is a 1982 single by Japanese new wave/synthpop band that collaborated from 1979 until the 1990s. The Sunsetz, led by Makoto Kubota, and Sandii started as separate artists, and each has a separate discography. However, their collaboration provided a particular body of work that is representative of the period, and which successfully blended Eastern, Western and pop influences.

“Dreams Of Immigrants” was penned by lyricist Chris Mosdell who has written lyrics for Sarah Brightman and Boy George; co-written lyrics with Michael Jackson had his work covered by Eric Clapton. The Sunsetz spent a lot of time in the UK, recording with David Sylvian and Fun Boy Three producer Dave Jordan. Sounds, NME and Melody Maker gave The Sunsetz extensive coverage which gave the group a lot of credibility in Japan, leading to increased record sales. Their live act gained many fans in the international music industry following their support slot on the final Japan world tour. The Sunsetz went on to tour and play festivals with Eurythmics, Inxs, Blondie and David Bowie.

**The two songs on the b-side are blended together forming one continuous mix. To keep the integrity of the original vinyl I did not split the tracks.
