Thereza Bazar – Too Much In Love (Europe 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

“Too Much In Love” is a 1985 single by Canadian-born British singer Thereza Bazar, best known as one half of the pop duo, Dollar.

Bazar released one solo album in 1985 called The Big Kiss, which she co-wrote. It was produced by Arif Mardin. The album reportedly cost half a million pounds to produce and generated media attention, but according to Bazar, the album’s circulation was poor due to a mix-up at the record company, with the album unavailable at the time of its advertised release. The album and its singles failed to chart.

Paul!!

What a shame that this song fell through the cracks. It is really stupendous Paul. Thankfully we have you to rescue beautiful songs from oblivion. Arif Mardin’s production is gorgeous and I really can’t help but swoon over this record. This is a perfect example of Morning Music/Sleaze that was popular in the 1980’s. I’m not sure if you know the genre, but the old Dance Music Report used to herald this music in its Hi-NRG column. Worth researching. But anyway, this is a top-notch record. Thanks so much for introducing me to this under-appreciated record. Absolutely marvelous!!

Here is a great write-up about the genre I found on the Web: “Back in the day, when variable-speed turntables were a relatively new invention, DJs very much wanted to create the perfect mix. Matching beats were only part of that. The most ambitious DJs, particularly those who played night after night until 4 a.m. — or in the case of many private membership clubs, several hours after the sun came up — aimed to take their dancers on a journey that mirrored nature’s own peaks and ebbs. Typically, the energy and tempos and intensity of the music would build… Read more »

Thanks for this post Paul. I never knew her solo project but it’s never too late to find out.

Dollar is one of the vocal duos that I like and that have been recorded in the best of my life as a teenager.
It would be great to have the other Maxi Singles from their first album.
Anyway, thank you for this Paul.

Very nice, Thank you DjPaul.
I didn’t know she had a solo project.

It reminds me of Jyl’s Computer Love (1984)

Now that´s a LOVEly surprise. I never knew Ms Bazar worked solo. As for this upload,
well… the singing never was her strongest suit but the songs are very nice. I almost like the b-side even more than the a-side. Nice find. Thank you, Paul.

Wow Paul! I dreamed to see this post on this special week of love and here it is! Once again you make me soooo deeply happy! This is another lost single that is given to us to discover or to rehear in a perfect sound thanks to you Paul. A thousand million thanks. I remember hearing this song for the first time on the radio back then when it came out. I promptly fell in love with it. BTG is so unique and has such an important place in my life. I’m so lucky and grateful to have you Paul… Read more »
