Vanity 6 – Drive Me Wild (US 12″)

R.I.P. Denise Katrina Matthews (January 4, 1959 – February 15, 2016), better known as Vanity and sometimes credited as Denise Matthews-Smith or D.D. Winters, was a Canadian singer, songwriter, dancer, actress and model, who turned away from her acting and music career to concentrate on evangelism. Her career lasted from the early–1980s until the mid–1990s. She was the lead singer of the female trio Vanity 6 from 1981 until it disbanded in 1983. The group was well known for their 1982 R&B/funk hit “Nasty Girl”. Vanity’s music career also included two solo albums on the Motown Records label, Wild Animal and Skin on Skin.She also had a successful film career, starring in the movies The Last Dragon, 52 Pick-Up, and Action Jackson.

Due to her kidney problems which were caused by years of drug use while she worked as a performer, she had to undergo peritoneal dialysis five times a day (each session was 20 minutes long).She suffered from sclerosing encapsulating peritonitis, a rare complication of a peritoneal dialysis, and died in a Fremont, California, hospital on February 15, 2016, at the age of 57 from renal failure.

“Drive Me Wild” was the third single released by American R&B/Funk female vocal trio Vanity 6.The group was assembled by American musician Prince in mid–1981 consisting of Vanity, Brenda Bennett and Susan Moonsey. Taken from the group’s only studio album Vanity 6. “Drive Me Wild” failed to chart.

“Jump Start” was the fourth single taken from the Natalie Cole album “Everlasting”. In the US a 12″ promo was issued called “Deluxe Dub” this promo contained exclusive US only remixes by Reggie Calloway.”Jump Start” reached #28 on the US dance chart in September 1987.

Natalie Cole – Jump Start (US 12″)

R.I.P.  Natalie Maria Cole (February 6, 1950 – December 31, 2015) was an American singer-songwriter, and actress. The daughter of Nat King Cole, she rose to musical success in the mid-1970s as an R&B artist with the hits “This Will Be”, “Inseparable”, and “Our Love”. After a period of failing sales and performances due to a heavy drug addiction, Cole re-emerged as a pop artist with the 1987 album Everlasting and her cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Pink Cadillac”. In the 1990s, she re-recorded standards by her father, resulting in her biggest success, Unforgettable… with Love, which sold over seven million copies and also won Cole numerous Grammy Awards. She sold over 30 million records worldwide.

On December 31, 2015, Cole died at the age of 65 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, due to congestive heart failure.  Natalie we will miss you.

“Jump Start” was the fourth single taken from Natalie Cole’s 1987 studio album “Everlasting”. The single was a top twenty hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 peaking at #13 on October 13, 1987. “Jump Start” was also a dance hit reaching #28 on September 19, 1987. In the UK the singles peaked at #36.
