Again, never heared of it, so my first reaction is about the sleeve..
Just, wow. Payboys on their weekend off, photographed by a hungover Jean Paul Goude?
Interesting overdose on symbolism. And, a cock is a chicken, right? The guy doing acrobatics on the bath, great to see him smiling this big, the rest is on a comedown perhabs? (In a weird way I miss ashtrays and empty bottles.)

But..does it fit the music?

All the Wide Boy Awake singles could do with the DJPaul treatment. Do you have any more of theirs Paul?

That would be great if you could. There are only 2 other singles, Billy Hyena & Bona Venture. If you get the 12″ of each of those they cover all the mixes on the 7″ releases as well…but Chicken Outlaw 7″ has unique shorter versions of both sides. There was a mini LP but it didn’t contain anything other than tracks available on the single releases.

I have everything in digital but only in lower bit rate mp3s. To replace all with flac eventually would be awesome.

I have all the vinyl they ever released, I think they are all worth owning. Billy Hyena is a great one. This is one band that has never ever had anything released on CD. I’ve been waiting.

Come Back Friday was the B-side of Bona Venture.

I have the vinyl 45 single by Wide Boy Awake called “Come Back Friday” came out in…(1983)…. it’s one of my favorite songs ever! I think it might be a B-Side…. Check it out. Would be happy to share it…. I am also familiar and have “Chicken Outlaw” somewhere (I also have the extended version of Chicken Outlaw) and also “Slang Teacher”… good stuff! Thanks Paul!

This is a real trip Paul! Gosh, my first exposure to this song was on I92 Rock of the 80’s from Philadelphia back in ’82. I thought it was quite bizarre but extremely catchy. I mean, if Malcolm McClaren could do a hip hop square dance scratch record with “Buffalo Gals” then, why not an electro-funky square dance song called “Chicken Outlaw”? I found this record addictive. Then, on New York City’s 92KTU, the famous dance station, the flip-side, “Slang Teacher” got so much radio and mixshow air-play. It was a double-sided hit. Incredible. “Chicken Outlaw” was way before The… Read more »

I had no idea the guy behind the record was from Adam and the Ants either. Too cool. I do hope others will give the song a chance. Hey, if they don’t like the A-side, I hope they at least stay for the B-side. “Chicken Outlaw” can be an annoying earworm, but “Slang Teacher” is a nice funky little jam! Both sides are really big fun though and I would like the others to give it a chance.

Thanks Paul!!

Hey Paul, I can’t believe how cool this 12-inch is. I’ve forgotten how brilliant “Slang Teacher” is. Except for the vocals, the background really reminds me of early Shriekback. It’s fantastic re-living this song in my head. And, again, I hope your readers will open up to this record, it’s really awesome.
