BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1988
“Desire” is a song by U2 taken from their 1988 album, Rattle and Hum. Released as the album’s lead single, “Desire” was the band’s first number-one single in the UK and Australia. It reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, and topped both the Modern and Mainstream Rock Tracks charts, the first song to reach the top of both of these charts simultaneously. It reached number two on the Dutch Top 40. In 1989, “Desire” won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
This version is longer, but similar, to “Desire (Hollywood Remix)”, 5:23, that is to be found on the retail 12″. The 9:23 version is exclusive to the UK 12″ and Cassette promo releases. The 12″ is housed in a glossy black sleeve with text on the front cover only.

I have it in MP3 in a very poor sound…
I’ve been looking for a lossless version for a VERY long time!
Thank you so much Paul!!!
Wow !! the full unedited 12″ version !! (unlike the edited version on the CD single & vinyl)
& of course like all your other rips, sounds fantastic !!
I’ve paypal’d you 20USD to say thanks !!
Paul (soundstoryuk)
Thanks Paul. Didn’t know this version existed. You come up with some great rare versions and then rip them perfectly.
I’ve always LOVED this remix back from when they played a remix video of it on MTV. Have only come across poor rips, so I am utterly thrilled that you’ve ripped this. Thank you so much!
Back in 1989 or 90 I thought I didn’t like U2 because I was on electronic stuff and I hated rock… then I listen Desire and I remember I thought “man, this band have to be something if they come with such powerfull song”, then I listened to other U2’s albums… My favorite Rock band since then…
Thank you very much for this one Paul.
Never heard this version, thanks Paul !!!
What a great rare post. Awesome. Thanks Paul.
Wow, I didn’t know this existed – I bought the album at the time, and two versions of the Desire single, but never saw or heard of this extended version. Thanks so much!
You’re welcome James 🙂
Awesome rip! Always nice to have some U2 mixes. Thanks 🙂
You’re welcome woz!
Wow — first the looooong edition of Pictures Of You, and now this. Thanks very much!! Wonder what else you have up your sleeve for us gluttonous audiophiles?!?!?!
thank you Mike C 🙂
Thanks for sharing this gem with us, but most of all… thanks for the tieme invested on the rip.
Most welcome Partytimeboy 🙂
Very cool! Had no idea there was a longer edit of the Hollywood Remix! Thanks so much!
You’re welcome Todd 🙂
Yes, it was edited down to 5+ minutes to fit the at the time UK chart rules otherwise the 12″ would have been considered an album !
How dare you force us to take this U2 record for free! I feel so violated!!
🙂
(Some people have waaaay too much time on their hands)
Thanks again for all the good tunes.
I thought of Ken’s comment when I saw this on Facebook: (Fingers crossed the link works as intended)

Awesome Paul!!! You are so timely with your “releases” as this coresponds to U2’s new album which was gifted to the public on I-Tunes. I can’t wait. I love U2’s dance versions and this one I’m excited to hear the long version of.
You rock!!
Jeff
Thank you Jeff I also like U2’s dance mixes 🙂
Just heard this absolutely stunning version and Paul, you just flat-out amaze me!! I so love your technical skills. The new stylus and your ripping expertise make me SWOON!!! Each goose bump has a mouth and is screaming in aural ecstasy!! I had to pick myself off the floor. Thanks for this rare gift and your many, many, many talents!!!
Panting,
Jeff
Thank you… Just wondering what was on the B-side? Was it same or no grooves?
It’s just one sided nothing on the b-side except grooves 🙂
Thanks Paul.
You’re welcome Omar 🙂
Who is U2? Have they been in the news recently? 🙂 Seriously, thanks for this. A nice, rare remix from the days of yore.
You’re very welcome Don!
Very rare indeed just looked on Discogs. What a post!
Thank you Neil 🙂
WOW… I have the “Hollywood Remix” Maxi CD and also the 12″.
I never know that it was in fact an edit of another version.
Thanks Paul.
BTW: very good quality.
Thank you Ziv 🙂
