Tracey Ullman – My Guy’s Mad At Me (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1984

A. Front

Tracey Ullman covered Madness’s “My Girl” in 1984. The title was changed to “My Guy”, and the single got the title “My Guy’s Mad at Me”. Madness’ Mark Bedford played bass on the track. Her version was in the UK Top 40 at the same time as Madness’ “Michael Caine” and peaked at number 23. “My Guy’s Mad at Me” was the first single taken from Ullman’s second studio album “You Caught Me Out”.

The music video featured the British politician Neil Kinnock, at the time the Leader of the Opposition. The single was also released as a 7″ picture disc, with a picture of Ullman and Kinnock sitting at a table.

Thanks Paul, I hadn’t heard this version before, only the Madness original and the versions by Pet Shop Boys. This one kinda has a Cristina vibe. Cool.

Again they ruined the song with the single version. After the long intro it fades out much to early 🙁 It’s a cool extended mix with the proper ending, but drags the song much to long, the best mix would be somewhere in between. It’s a nice cover, but the Madness original has much more punch to it!

Thanks Paul . Maybe you could follow this up with more UK female singers ….. Do u have any of the following ?

1. Dusty Springfield – nothing has been proved
2. Kate Bush – experiment 4
3. Alison Moyet – ordinary girl
4. Annabel Lamb – when angels travel

Many thanks .

Thank you Paul!
