Toto Coelo – Girls Night Out (Netherlands 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

“Girls Night Out” is the fourth single released by British new wave group Toto Coelo (renamed Total Coelo in the US). The single did not appear on any album and was released only as a single in Europe and Australia. “Girls Night Out” had previously been recorded in 1983 by New York City based group Ladies Choice on Streetwise Records. The single did not chart.

The “Dub” is exclusive to this Netherlands release. As far as I know none of the tracks on this 12″ have appeared on CD.

Hi Paul,

Just wanted you to know the Aussie 12″ of this had a third mix which runs 5 mins 55 secs.

it’s like the A-side on your 12″ only longer.

Cheers,

Tom in Oz

😀 lol Paul, I was amazed when you posted Toto Coelo’s 2nd single (I had never heard of it). That you’ve managed to find their FOURTH single is something quite incredible. 😀

You know the other week when there was that hot debate over you posting stuff people haven’t heard of – this is absolutely the supporting case *for*. Where else would you ever find this??? The general public NEED Toto Coelo’s fourth single shoving in their face, and I’m glad Burning The Ground is able to do the honours.

BTW Paul, I notice there’s a little dot screen pattern in the sleeve today (you usually manage to avoid it!) – I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned before, but this Photoshop filter is really good at removing those patterns:

I’ve got the $15 version, but you can get a free trial demo. You apply it to the hi-res scan, before you scale the image down. Those examples are from before they’re scaled down, so look a bit blurred, but they’ll obviously be sharper when scaled.

🙂

Thanks for the link Jermajesty; I can’t wait to read it. Hey, my apologies. It’s on Vulture and not on Vox. Here is the link. The guy is smart and I really like the interviewer too because he doesn’t come off as a sycophantic fan. Here’s the link:

Jermajesty is a genius with this statement Paul. What really gets me all buzzed (and moist and excited) is the additions of stuff that is so different. I may know a lot of stuff, but you have been instrumental in introducing me to things I’ve never knew existed. Even the “Best of Toto Coelo” doesn’t have this song on it!! You and Burning The Ground are so punk rock and make people take notice. Jermajesty is right when he says that “The general public NEED Toto Coelo’s fourth single shoving in their face, and I’m glad Burning The Ground is… Read more »

🙂 Thanks Jeff. I always enjoy your comments too.

Where is that Trent Reznor interview on Vox BTW?

He’s so smart. I loved a quote of his a few years back about how music executives didn’t understand the potential of the internet or digital services, so much so that he doubted any of them even knew how to use email. 😀 It’s here if you want a nostalgic read:

Awesome, Paul. Haven´t heard this in ages. Listening to it right now I wonder why.
And I never knew there was a great dub mix. Love it.
Thank you. Again and again.

I am so enthused about this release Paul. I mean, you have given us all the great twelves from Toto Coelo and now this entry as well! How can I ever thank you? This is quite a week already Paul and I’m so excited to hear this song of which is very new to me. I was schooled in the other discs of this band but I had no idea of this tune. Just awesome!!!

Wham Bam Bang The Jam!! Paul, this was a very cool record. Very different to their more New Wave offerings, but very entertaining. I love the almost “You are In My System” by The System slinky background and the way the entire record is punctuated by these bursts of guitar and percussion. Quite unique. Plus, I love that little rap thing going on. Yes, a brand new favorite courtesy of you.

Thanks Paul. I would love a proper remastered/expanded reissue of their album someday as well.
