NEW 2021 Transfer!
New Meticulous Restoration!
Originally posted May 6, 2015
This is the only single posted this week that was not a U.S. #1 single “We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)” was kept from the top spot by another single posted earlier this week “St. Elmos Fire (Man In Motion)” by John Parr.
“We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)” is a 1985 song by Tina Turner. It was featured in the 1985 film Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome which starred Turner and Mel Gibson. The song was written by Terry Britten and Graham Lyle.
“We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)” was released on the heels of Turner’s multiplatinum album Private Dancer. The song’s lyrical content is written from the perspective of those being oppressed and not wanting to get their hopes up in yet another “hero” who may or may not save them. The song was released as a 7″ single, and an extended version was released as a 12″ single and on the film’s soundtrack album. In the UK, a shaped picture disc was also released.
In 1986, the song received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song and a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. As songwriters, Lyle and Britten received the 1985 Ivor Novello award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically.
Turner was backed by a choral group from King’s House School in Richmond, London. One of the choir members who appeared on the record, Lawrence Dallaglio, became famous in a totally different field as a rugby union star and captain of the England national team.
“We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)” became one of Tina Turner’s biggest worldwide hit singles. The single peaked at #2 on the United States Billboard Hot 100, #3 in the UK, and reached #1 in Canada, Australia, Germany, Poland, Spain, and Switzerland.

Thank you very much for this gem. I have not arrived in time to download it, but it cannot be removed from my mind and my heart. Thank you for the effort you make and for your work.
Greetings from Spain.
Tube has a couple of these tracks that can be converted.
Obviously it won’t be HQ like a DJ Paul share.
Weak sauce record labels who got caught flat footed by the digital age need to get over it as this should be in the public domain by now.
BTW-Looking out for your mother is very heroic DJ Paul. Good man.
Dear Paul,
unfortunately the download is already not available any more! That’s unusual, right? Would you be so kind to look into it after your Mum has recovered from her surgery, please! I wish her all the best and a speedy recovery!
Thank you for all the amazing work you’re doing!
Cheers,
Mark
Sorry, Mark, I was asked to remove it by the label.
Uh, that’s unfortunate. Hope you didn’t run into trouble!?
Anyway, have a nice weekend & stay safe, Paul!

Thank you. Greetings from Poland
Gee, 1985 doesn’t seem so long ago!
A big part of my attraction to your blog is the nostalgia. I get to relive so many long-forgotten memories which are triggered by seeing the old music, and hearing it again.
I didn’t care for this film. I’m kind of a film snob. But Tina Turner is always a welcome sight.
Thank you, PaulT 🙂
Waw, Glad to discover this 12″ because the instrumental version gives a new listen to the music by itself and it just sound great.
They had money to produce quality soundtracks at the time.
I am glad you revisited this post. I thought your initial rip was fantastic sounding, but obviously your gear is a step up now.
Thanks Paul 🙂
You’re welcome, Mark I am always striving to make my transfers sound better. Enjoy your weekend 🙂
Thanks for existing Paul. you are amazing!
Thank you, Sir M 🙂
Thanks Paul for the terrific week of posts!!
You’re very welcome, Retro Hound 🙂
Absolutely stellar work. What a fun week! Thank you.

Thank you for this new transfer, Paul! Tina is a legend and so are you!
Thank you so much Brian John 🙂
Great end to the “Motion Picture Perfect” week Paul! You’re my hero for sure and thanks for a very fun run through 80’s film songs!
You, Song And Dance and all the folks here, have a tremendous weekend!
Jeff
