“Voices Carry” is a song by the American rock band ‘Til Tuesday. It was produced by Mike Thorne for the band’s debut studio album, Voices Carry (1985). The accompanying music video, directed by D.J. Webster, received wide exposure on MTV and positive reactions from critics. It was nominated for numerous awards and is thought to be the reason behind the song’s success. It was released in North America in March 1985. “Voices Carry” became the band’s highest-charting single and their only top ten hit in the U.S., peaking at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100. Internationally it reached the top twenty in Canada and Australia.

Any chance of a re-up?
Both sides of this promo contain the Bob Clearmountain remix that was commissioned contrary to producer Mike Thorne’s contract. Thorne luckily didn’t make a big deal over it.
can’t seem to open the 16bit copy, the other 24bit copy is non existent. The password says it is burningtheground but it doesn’t work. please help. thanks.
The 24bit file is no longer available. I downloaded the 16bit file and it opened perfectly using the correct password burningtheground
GREAT sounding rip! And for those interested: The “Long Version” by Bob Clearmountain is also called “Remix” in some places, and sounds a bit different from the original version.
Sorry I’m posting after the fact but I wanted to thank you all the same, Paul. The first time I heard Voices Carry, I was enjoying a weekend trip to Seattle. I recall identifying with the singer’s angst, especially at the end. After I’d seen the video, the song had further cemented itself onto my permanent memory. Voices Carry really touched me on an intimate level, in an almost spiritual sense. Later, when I was making some major life decisions, I’d recall the message of this track and the courage I’d need in holding onto my convictions. Voices Carry has… Read more »
…So someone once told me that they thought they heard “We’re So Scary” instead of “Voices Carry”… Now that’s all I hear when this song comes on…. 😛
Fun Trivia-Canadian prog power trio Rush paid the marvelous looking Til Tuesday singer Aimee Man $2000 to sing on Time Stand Still in 1987.
It was the firs time that they collaborated with another vocalist and the results are welll…marvelous.
One of the absolute standouts from 1985! And your rips have recently sounded even better than usual. The sound and your attention to detail are outstanding! Thank you, Paul!
Thank you dugn. The upgrade in sound is due to the purchase of a new stylus an Ortofon 2M Black.
That’s an incredible cart! Hope you enjoy the upgrade. I know those of us here who noticed are enjoying it 🙂
Love it!! A stand-out debut from ‘Til Tuesday. Thanks.
You’re welcome, Retro Hound 🙂
Thanks,.. Love Aimee.
If in the future there’s any chance for a CDM of Coming Up Close, that would be awesome.
Excellent transfers sir, thanks again
Thank you, Dan 🙂
Before I ever heard this on the radio, I got to see the music video first on my friend’s MTV as my Dad didn’t want to go the cable route. Even my friend who really didn’t care about videos in the first place, loved it. Great record Paul and I’m so thankful for the re-rip. Your postings lately have incredible sound, not that they didn’t before mind you, but these recent rips really are punchy with so much exquisite sonics. You are a “Vinyl Master” like one of your readers calls you! And in these still stressful times, I’m grateful… Read more »
Like you Jeff, I saw the video first before hearing the song on the radio. This track became such an 80s staple. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the sound quality too it’s always nice to hear feedback on that especially after a needle upgrade 🙂
