BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985
“Some Like It Hot” is a song recorded by English–American rock supergroup The Power Station made up of singer Robert Palmer, former Chic drummer Tony Thompson, and Duran Duran members John Taylor (bass) and Andy Taylor (guitar). Bernard Edwards, also of Chic, was involved in the studio side as recording producer. It was the first single released from the group’s 1985 eponymous debut album. Released by Capitol/Parlophone Records in 1985. It was the band’s biggest hit, peaking at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. The video featured the transgender model Caroline Cossey (also known as Tula). The song was featured in the 1985 film National Lampoon’s European Vacation.
“What we really wanted to do was put this drummer out there in a way that we felt he deserved, so that song particularly was sort of designed to really showcase Tony,” said bassist John Taylor. “I flew to Nassau in the Bahamas, which was where Robert Palmer lived at the time, and played him the demo that Andy and I had written and said, ‘We’ve got this idea that we’re calling “Some Like It Hot.”‘ And he just looked at me and said, ‘And some sweat when the heat is on.’ I was, like, ‘Yes! That’ll do…'”
The Power Station was living a lavish, drug-fueled lifestyle during the recording of the album, which made focusing difficult. “I had to be, like, strapped to the desk if I was gonna get a bass line finished because I was just all over the place,” John Taylor said.

Hi! Please reupload
Thanks Paul,
I didn’t really care for this song as much as Communication,
which didn’t get much of a remix, and Harvest for the World,
which didn’t get released at all.
It is an iconic song, and much better than Bang A Gong.
These guys liked doing a lot of cover songs though.
The 2nd album didn’t make much of a dent, especially
without Robert Palmer.
Thanks again.

Thanks Paul. I always like Power Station but every rip i have is very mudddy, its compressed to an inch of life. This Single single sound much more crisp. Thanks.
Thank you! Love Power Station and am sad about the dearly departed. The art for this album and singles remains iconic, IMO.
I recently listened to their second album and was surprised to enjoy it.
Yes, Robert Palmer was an icon. I tend to think of this as more a Duran Duran offshoot though since the majority are Duran Duran members. What a great track. It is unfortunate that this and Bang A Gong were the only tracks that really got airtime since the whole album is really very good. Thanks for posting this Paul! Can’t wait for the other half to make an appearance! 😀
Gosh, I love(d) Robert Palmer. I could kick myself for never seeing him live. His wonderful voice melted perfectly with the awesome drums and the fantastic bassline. Just great. The 12inch version isn´t that great but I cherish my Power Station vinyls anyway. Love it, Paul. Thank you.
You’re welcome Song And Dance 🙂
Yes!
I’m sweating already!! This is so freaking hot Paul!! Definitely, one of my favorite jams from the 80’s with those blistering drums and blaring sax driving me crazy!!! I’m so thrilled that you’re posting this one. I love the fact that Jimmy Bralower played on this one. He did the percussive effects on Goon Squad’s “Eight Arms To Hold You” and that’s another one of my absolute faves!! Power Station are amazing and the record never gets tired!!
Jeff
I preferred Arcadia myself over Power Station just because I have always like new wave. However, Power Station was more successful on the charts such a great line up. Andy Taylor rocked on that guitar and John Taylor melted us with that funky bass.
Yes, I agree… I did not give the Power Station much attention until years later, and although the debut is fantastic & solid (and the 2nd album ain’t bad but doesn’t live up) I absolutely pined away for a 2nd Arcadia record. Just one of my all time favorites and the sleeve is 1 of 10 to grace my office wall!
I have to agree that Arcadia were great. Like a goth Duran Duran. Now this track still is excellent. Those pounding drums at the start just grabs attention and keeps it going especially in the 12″ versions.
Loved Robert Palmer’s voice.
Thank you very much Paul!!! I love the two albums, Living In Fear from 1996 was good, but not commercial.
You’re welcome Guss 🙂
