BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987
“Severina” or V is the fifth single released by British gothic rock band The Mission (known as The Mission UK in the U.S. for legal reasons) released in March 1987. The single was taken from the bands debut album God’s Own Medicine. The band includes Lead vocalist Wayne Hussey formerly of Dead Or Alive and Sisters Of Mercy.
“Severina” peaked at #25 on the UK singles chart and #21 on the Irish singles chart.
Love You To Death (track B2) is an instrumental, an acoustic guitar intro of Love Me To Death which was edited off the orginal version of Love Me To Death so the song could fit onto the “God’s Own Medicine” LP.

Hi Paul,
I am wondering what happened to your posts of the US Wasteland 12″ and the III (Stay With Me) 12″? They were here before and having returned to look for them in lossless they have vanished.
Could you please re-post these as they actually have non-cd tracks present and they are sorely missed.
Thanks in advance good sir.
Thanks Paul.
Stay with me is also a great track by The Mission and the 12″ mix is heavily extended :)and not available on CD

Although I knew some of The Mission in the 80’s, little did I know then of what was about to happen in the 90’s. Seeing them live while uhm, mindexpandingly enjoying mother earth’s produce, was a nice thing. A Very Nive Thing. Especially the long extended not-too-rocky-but-slowed-down-just-a-bit tracks(..ofcourse..). One of a kind, this band. Few imitate the style, but The Mission has its own corner in music history.. Hope there’s more to come, to show and prolongue this wave, but thanks for the reminder anyway, Paul.
cool that you posted this paul.
i enjoy a few of the missions songs,
this is one of them.
great mix too.

ARTWORK FIX!
I made a mistake in photoshop today when I was editing the artwork for the back cover. I accidentally removed part of the track listing shown on the sleeve. I have corrected the mistake, you can now re-download the files with the fixed artwork. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Another great one from The Mission is “Butterfly On A Wheel (Magnificent Octopus Mix) 9:06. Got the original UK 12” but not a turntable!
I will look into that one Walter C 🙂
Lol – ‘Magnificent Octopus’ is a Blackadder reference. (Baldrick’s interpretation of the phrase ‘magnum opus’.)

FANTABULOUS!
Thank you Walter C 🙂
Brilliant post! One of the better (IMO). My comments resonate Paddy’s and OMAR’s comments. Thanks!
Thank you RA 🙂
FANTASTIC!!! A gift from the gods indeed! I’ve just gone back through the other Mission posts and saw I didn’t even comment on most of them, so a belated thank you for those too. This song reminds me of such happy times being a moody teenager. 🙂 My introduction to The Mission was when my friend painted a giant mural of the God’s Own Medicine sleeve on her bedroom wall. The rest of the room was completely black. It was the coolest thing. Have you seen the famous late night drunken TV interview with Wayne Hussey where he gets thrown… Read more »
Damn I hate when I screw up a lovely post. I will fix the photoshop user mistake later on and re-up the files. Thanks for pointing it out and sharing a fun story with us Jermajesty 🙂
Thank you Paul. I love how you love everything to be the best it can be. 🙂
I have fixed the image you re-download the files if you like.
Thanks Paul
Thanks Paul. “Butterfly on a wheel” and “Tower of strength” are my favorites by The Mission. I’m not so familiar with this one but it sounds great too.
You’re welcome Daniel 🙂
Now we’re talking! Good stuff indeed
Thank you Paddy 🙂
Oh my, Jermajesty is going to flip-out!! I am too, actually. Paul, you stun me with your phenomenal postings. I love the cover of this 12-inch and I am thrilled to hear this band courtesy of you. Such an amazing thing you’re doing on a day to day basis. Very excited and hyped!!
Jeff
I think this is the only 12″ I have left to post by them since I posted several years ago 🙂
Thanks Paul. I have the remastered version of God’s Own Medicine which is excellent. This track is one of the best.
Good for you Omar 🙂
