The Human League – (Keep Feeling) Fascination (Greece 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1983

“(Keep Feeling) Fascination” is a 1983 song by the British synthpop group The Human League. It was composed by Jo Callis and Philip Oakey, and produced by Martin Rushent (which would be the last song he produced for the band for seven years).

The song features vocals from four of the band members, including lead singer Philip Oakey, female co-vocalists Susan Ann Sulley and Joanne Catherall, and a rare vocal role from keyboardist and guitarist Jo Callis.

The single was designated ‘Red’ on the Human League’s short-lived, self-imposed labeling system of ‘Blue’ for pop songs and ‘Red’ for dance tracks.

The single was released in the UK on 11 April 1983 as a non-album single, and went to number 2 in the UK Singles Chart. It was incorporated into the band’s EP Fascination!. Released in the US a month after the UK release, the single reached number 1 on the US Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart (their first single to do so) and number 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100 that summer.

This Greece 12″ contains a unique picture sleeve and is the only 12″ to contain the instrumental b-side track “Total Panic”, which only appears on 7″ in other countries.

Paul, you could blow a few minds by posting The Human League’s early single, Being Boiled. It sounds like an entirely different band. Thanks, and keep those early 80s tracks coming!

One of my favourite tracks by Phil and the gang. Although “Mirror Man” is probably my all-time fave.

Thanks indeed Paul 🙂

One of my favorite New Wave songs from the 80’s and The Human League. I hear this song playing all the time in the grocery stores here in San Francisco, makes me feel so old! hahahaha, but this is one of their best. And the shorter single version seems to be the one I have on my list of vinyl I want. I love both the single version and this extended version. Thanks Paul!

Thankyou Paul. One of their best. I always preferred the 12″ mix to the standard 7″.

It´s fascinating 🙂 that this is only your second upload featuring The Human League. Great song although every time I listen to it I am irritated by the main melody that sounds a bit off key. Well done by the League. I cannot remember whether Fascination charted in Germany at all. I´d be surprised if it didn´t though. Have to check that out later.
Anyway, a great release in mindblowing quality to add to my DJ Paul collection.

Thank you Paul.

I’m so glad you’re back Paul posting all the great music you love and that we all love. Another psychic moment too as I was playing a Human League megamix over the weekend that had this track included. I’m also excited because of “The Improvisation” flip-side. Martin Rushent did wild dub/instrumental mixes and I love compiling them on CD, especially with the quality you put forth. This is most excellent, Paul. I’m really happy!!
