The Dream Academy – Indian Summer (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987

Produced by Hugh Padgham and Lindsey Buckingham “Indian Summer” was the first single from The Dream Academy’s second album “Remembrance Days”. The song is about reflecting on the past, especially with previous friendships and relationships. The scene of the song is set with a group friends on holiday who decide to stay during an Indian Summer. Critics had drawn many parallels with the song and their debut single “Life in a Northern Town”, especially with the chant at the end of the song.

The video was played regularly on VH1. Despite this, the single failed to chart, something that would plague the band’s subsequent singles until they split up in 1991.

YAY! Thank you, DjPaulT! Great rip, and a very welcome addition to my DA collection. I have tinkered with the 12″ and mix-edited an alternate version right away (I can e-mail it as a thank you, if you like).

And I thought we’ve completed our music education at The Dream Academy!
I for one also went off them (after Please Please Please) and only got back briefly for their excellent Love single.
Even though I bought this 2nd album, I’ve only listened to it once.
So this is a good time to rediscover the single, and in it’s 12″ glory.
With another of my 80s crushes Lindsey Buckingham on helm, it should be lush and luscious!
Thanks Paul!

Thanks, Paul! I have this on a bootleg, but it’ll be good to have an original-source rip. I know the chant makes this one seem derivative of “Northern Town,” but I prefer to think of it as the autumnal counterpart to the other song’s spring thaw. 🙂
