The Cure – Boys Don’t Cry (New Voice Club Mix) (Germany 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986

A. Front

“Boys Don’t Cry” was the second single to be released by the Cure, released in June 1979. It was released in the UK as a stand-alone single, and was included as the title track on Boys Don’t Cry, the American equivalent to Three Imaginary Boys.

In April 1986 it was re-released under the title “New Voice · New Mix”, in which the original track was remixed and the vocals re-recorded. The new version has not appeared on any subsequent release by the Cure, but can be heard in the music video for “Boys Don’t Cry”. It was released to promote Standing on a Beach; however, the original version of the song appears on the album.

The Cure/Robert Smith have been very good with re-issues; there’s the ‘Join the Dots’ 4-cd-set and the ongoing (I hope, up to ‘Disintegration’ at this point) releases of deluxe albums. But this particular a-side seems to have fallen between the cracks (tracks?), which makes this one yet another of your historically important posts. Thank you very much.

Thanks Paul, what a great line up of songs this week… I love this 12″. Yeah, the ’86 single version is hard to find, never understood why it was not used anywhere else; the best sound can probably be found on the US 12″ promo, I think it was called “English Version,” It was also featured as the b-side to the US 1986 re-release of “Let’s Go To Bed.” To the Sky “Resurrection mix” was something that appeared on an art of mix 12″ compilation and to my knowledge was never officially released anywhere. And yeah, Primary 12″ that is… Read more »

Thank you very much Paul. Hope this is the beginning of a Cure thread. By the way do you happen to have the 12″ of Primary. Such a great song with a thunderous bassline. Cheers from Oz.

Hey Paul,
I can’t believe this! I bought this literally TODAY! I was going to request it earlier but I’ve been re-installing programs all day and I haven’t gotten to e-mail yet. I decided to see what you posted today and it was this. Incredible.
Do you have the 7inch version as well?
I’ve also been looking for “To The Sky (Resurrection Mix)”
Thanks,
David

You can’t go wrong with anything by The Cure! Paul, thanks for unearthing this mix. So looking forward to listening to it. You pull out all the stops Paul. Again, everyday is like having a Christmas present delivered directly from you.
