Ah, the Chantoozies, from my native Australia. Still don’t know what that name means. Yes, of my favorites. Wanna be up, don’t wanna be down. You might think that he’s real cool, I know, he’s a real big dude. (Do?) Oh those rare songs. Do like Witch Queen, but think my favorite cover is Step on you. I really liked how they played that one. 🙂

Also worth checking out is Witch Queen by a group named Witch Queen. They had a minor hit with a cover of T.Rex’s Bang A Gong, known as Get It On everywhere except the US.

The song title reminds me that you also host Book of Love’s “Witchcraft”, containing the phrase, “I am a witch, and a queen.” That phrase, in turn, was lifted from a Serena line in the Bewitched episode “Double Double Toil and Trouble”. 🤓

I am so glad you are back Paul. You know how I worry. I also know how much you love Halloween, so getting sick must have caused you additional stress because, well, you love spooky season.

I love this record. Perfect for an All-Hallows’ Eve playlist. Many. many kudos for adding this to your site!!

For all you youngsters, the awesome original was the second chart hit for Redbone in 1971, peaking at #21 on the Hot 100. The original was titled “The Witch Queen Of New Orleans”, written by Native Americans from Coalinga, CA Pat & Lolly Vegas. It was a bigger hit in Europe (BEL #1, UK #2, NDL #5, IRL #7). They later hit the US top 5 in 1973 with the gold single “Come And Get Your Love” that interestingly, wasn’t big around the world, until reissued in 2019 and went BPI platinum, and #1 in France, #2 in Belgium.
