“The Call” rocked… Great lead singer with so much emotional range. He died helping his son at one of his son’s concerts…. not a bad way to go. In service of others.
Rockin’ out for the weekend… Thank you Paul!! I did catch your original rip of this gem, but thank you for the upgrade! Such an underrated band, and I agree that Let The Day Begin was one of the best anthems to close out the 80s. Such a loss with Michael Been. Have a great weekend, and you too Jeff, Martika, Fred and everyone else here!!
I hope you also have a great weekend, Retro Hound!! In addition to Paul’s amazing rips, I will also enjoy the bonus tracks on Billy Idol’s Rebel Yell Anniversary Edition and the new Pet Shop Boys album!
Thanks Martika! Great idea, Billy Idol’s ‘new’ song Best Way Out of Here is quite good! Btw Paul, if you happen to have this by Billy Idol that would be an amazing post! https://www.discogs.com/release/398450-Billy-Idol-Eyes-Without-A-Face
Yeah, that’s a great song and the funky Prince sound certainly suits them well! I was blown away by the demo version of Flesh For Fantasy, which sounds nothing like the final version. Sometimes a good producer can really bring out the best in a song!
You’re welcome, Retro Hound. Have a great weekend 🙂
Thanks for restoring these classics, Paul. Even if they are reissued on a “super deluxe edition” CD, there’s no guarantee that the original dynamics haven’t been smashed with a limiter set to “steamroller”.
You’re welcome Dj XREY. I always hope for the best on CD Deluxe Editions I am often let down. Have a great weekend 🙂
The Call’s alternative hits “Let The Day Begin”, “Everywhere I Go”, and “When The Walls Come Down” all got lots of airplay on KROQ back in the day. I always thought they were British, not “Okies”. LOL Sure fooled me. Never knew Jim Kerr & Peter Gabriel sang background vocals.
Lol Ukies are everywhere in the music industry.
Just a few I thought of:
Tobey Keith
Reba McEntire
Garth Brooks
Blake Shelton
The GAP Band
Hanson
Vince Gill
The Flaming Lips
The All-American Rejects
Leon Russell
The Call
Color Me Badd
Jim Kerr and Peter Gabriel on backing vocals?!?!? How have I never heard this before?!? THANK YOU, PAUL! Can’t wait to check this out!
You’re welcome, Martika. Have a great weekend 🙂
This is a crazy coincidence, looks like the Reconciled album and the following album were just released a month ago in a double “remastered” version. It seems to contain only one bonus track, the song from today!
Reconciled & Into The Woods (Remastered) | The Call (bandcamp.com)
Many thanks for the upgrade !!!
You’re welcome 🙂
I love that band. Much underrated in my eyes. On their bandcamp page it is told that they were also formed in your hometown Tulsa. Thank you Paul for this new transfer. Have a great weekend, Paul, Jeff and all the beautiful BTG community.
You are correct, Daniel the band was formed here in Tulsa. They also have a song titled “Oklahoma”. have a great weekend 🙂
I am thrilled for this polished up re-rip of this song!! Paul, I love these rock remixes! Please, anymore will be quite welcomed!!
I love the new name for “Totally Obscure 80’s.” Way to go dugn!!
Have a great weekend, Paul, Song And Dance, Retro Hound, Martika, Daniel, ING and dugn!!
Jeff
Have a great weekend, Jeff 🙂
Thanks for always remembering the community! Have a fantastic weekend!
Hi Martika,
I really love you guys. Paul’s community makes me feel so happy!!
Jeff
Great tune! The entire Reconciled album is an absolute gem, if you haven’t listened to it give it a spin! The cover of Let The Day Begin in the Lost Boys is epic as well 🙂
As always thanks Paul!
You’re welcome, Mikey. I will check out the album for sure. Have a great weekend 🙂
I hate to be ‘that guy’ to correct you, but it was actually the cover of I Still Believe in the Lost Boys (which is epic).
Great song, DJ Paul! When The Walls Came Down is one of my absolute favorite closet 80s jams with a classic and timelessly simple music video. And Let The Day Begin is one the best anthems for the entirety of the 80s. For those who don’t know this little-known band, they’re missing some choice goodness. Thanks for bringing them to the fore. Cheers!
Thank you, dugn. I will steal your phrase “closet 80s jams” and start using that instead of “Totally Obscure 80s” because someone always comments on how something is not obscure. So Thank you 🙂 I love “The Walls Came Down” It is perfect in every way.
